When i drive along in the escort at roughly motorway speed i can feel a rumble from something and as the speed increases the rumble gets worse.

i can feel it through the floor pan

what could it be????

un-balanced prop, incorrect balanced wheels, something stupid???

help

I had this in my old mk2. Do you have the one piece prop or is it the one with the centre bearing? If it has the centre bearing thats probably the culprit.

Also check engine mounts and rear gearbox mount.

If you think it could be a wheel bearing it would be more of a hum and it would quieten down when you unload the suspect bearing, ie when you go around a corner

its fine when im stood still.

its a 2 piece prop so im guessing its something to do with the prop or a wheel bearing thats going.

ill check it all tomorow night.

fooking car

its probably what every one else has sugested prop or wheel bearing but check you wheels aswell you may have a tire with a lump on it or a bent rim or even somthing very simple like you've lost a balence weight

i would think that if it were the front road wheels area then you would get it through the steering of which you have not said anything about but as i said i could be a number of things but i would lean towards the prop, check the UJ`s and the mounting areas if its a split prop check the centre joint (17 quid ebay) how hard do you drive the car could you have bent it

check the back wheels for being loose and check the condition of the rear tyres any bulges have you hit anything hard with the rear wheels check for out of shape rear wheel.

just had the rear wheel balanced after a flat tyre so i hope thats not the problem.

could be a wheel bearing as i dont think i ever did the rear ones. i onyl did the fronts.

its definately not the front thats wobbling cos i cant feel it through the steering.

do the wheel bearings if you haven't done them yet, just to be safe even if it doesn't cure the problem

as said above check for bulges, worn tyres, but i'd say with a fair bit of confidence that the wheel bearings will sort it!

I had a rumble/knocking noise coming through my floor once, then the diff went bang!!! :? But that was at low speeds too, along the way i found the prop to diff bolts were loose and i changed the centre bearing and rubber bush thingy.

fooking car.

gonna do the wheel bearings anyway....keep thinking about going for a one piece prop anyway but i dont know shit about them

defo cant be the diff cos tis done less than 1kmiles and the rumble is only at motorway speeds

whats to know about a single piece prop????

how fast are you going?

what happens when you knock it out of gear when it's rumbling?

Is the wheel tight after you had it balanced?
