i do 30miles a day in gloria to work and back,

which wouldn't be to bad if i didn't have to go over an engine killer of a hill there and back,

and the way fuel prices are im thinking of dieseling her then ill have free tax, cheap insurance then cheaper fuel

(well more miles to the gallion anyway )

what do you think?

does any one no of a cheap 1800 turbo diesel sierra ???

there is a guy who writes for ppc mag who is putting a diesel into a westfield.

he is using an audi engine with a supra gearbox - he got the kit to mate the box to the engine from the states

sounds like a good project. Have you looked at BMW's as it already has a rwd box

that is what i'm doing to the cortina got the engine 1800 non turbo (but its still got more bhp than the original engine) it's got the holes in the side for the engine mounts although the side with the pump will have to be a modified escort sport mount but it should fit in but the tunnel needs making bigger, and it is the most simple engine to wire up glow plugs on a button on the dash, solenoid controlled by the ignition, the starter connecting and alternator wiring in and the engine should fit in without modifying the sump. but if you are looking to fit it make sure it fits it is quite a large engine with everything on it but it's about 600x600x600 to the widest longest and deepest points but thats without the sump being altered but go for it i am :mrgreen::mrgreen:

I ran my last diesel on kerosene mixed with the cheapest oil I could find. Now that was cheap fuel :ykt:

Highly illegal though, if the ministry dip the tank they could have taken the car/van. Unless you were paying the fuel duty on the kerosene of course.... Running veg is now legal and free up to 2500L a year.

Got a s ierra turbo diesel in my mk1 escort van,not intercooled but 100bhp,not an easy swop, but if I was doing it again I would use the pug 1900 diesel,a much more tunable engine and probably just as much hassle to transplant :)

Transit TDCI, think its a 2l,And early ones were cable rather than fly by wire, but you will still need the ECU, buy a banana shaped write off for not very much and a long weekend in the garage!!!!!

sounds like a good idea but you had better look into have the car will be tax'ed as i have a feeling that if you change the fuel type on a tax exempt vehical that didnt have the option of that fuel type you loose the tax exempt status but i would check up on that first as i'm not totaly sure thats true it just what i've heard

i was original looking at using the 2.0 16valve di vectra lump on a xe bellhousing because that is a fast engine and revs well. But with the cost of the parts it would have cost the same as putting an xe in it so when i got offered a rebuilt 1800 for £150 complete even with rad. And the only thing i need to buy is a sierratd 1800 clutch.... i got it and it is going to fit perfectly in the engine bay. But i might fit the vectra lump at a later date

Not true, the fuel type on the V5 would be heavy oil, you are only running the existing engine on a different fuel. The taxation class is Historical (tax free), the car is legible for historical tax because of it's age, two different things. Changing the fuel type does not make it any newer, so it's still legible for the free tax.

The only issue used to be paying fuel duty to HM Customs for the veg oil because you are using it as a fuel. That changed in June 07, so you can now use up to 2500L without notifying them.

I would forget the old Ford 1.8 TD. In my opinion it's the worst engine ever made. Had one in a P100 and it was absolutely hopeless. Actually it's not a Ford but an old Perkins construction for stationary use as in a coolingmachine or generator. My opinion...
