cyrix Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 Started on this last night, Cant imagine I will find any rot, really, Ive got a hole to patch on the gearbox tunnel, I ripped it open when i got it beached on a high kerb with a drop either side. Ive attacked it with a cup brush in the grinder, which has successfully removed the thick of it from the floor of the car and onto me. however ive got like a sticky kind of messl eft plastered to the underside of the car, If i spend ages with the cup I can bring it back to metal, It tends to judt smudge as opposed to remove it though. Do you use some kind of solvent to remove whats left after you are removed the thick of it. Wish the car was on its side. Could have it done in an afternoon.

BudgieV8 Posted September 12, 2006 Report Posted September 12, 2006 I use a paint stripping heat gun (what you get from B&Q to take gloss off doors).A couple of seconds to warm the u/seal, then a quick scrape with a paint scraper, job done!
Rich Sav Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 i used a chisle and some brake cleaner and it canme off a treet took a week 2 do all the underside

I use one of them to heat the lead I'm using instead of filler much more effective than a blow lamp. Try a wire wheel on the end of a drill m8. worked 4 me
