Started on this last night, Cant imagine I will find any rot, really, Ive got a hole to patch on the gearbox tunnel, I ripped it open when i got it beached on a high kerb with a drop either side.

Ive attacked it with a cup brush in the grinder, which has successfully removed the thick of it from the floor of the car and onto me.

however ive got like a sticky kind of messl eft plastered to the underside of the car, If i spend ages with the cup I can bring it back to metal, It tends to judt smudge as opposed to remove it though. Do you use some kind of solvent to remove whats left after you are removed the thick of it.

Wish the car was on its side. Could have it done in an afternoon.

You want a BIG can of thinners mate!!!

I would go for cellulose thinners personally, soak a rag in it, and scrub,& all your sticky stuff will dissapear!!!

You can buy it from all good paint shops! :D:D:D

i got under my car and chisseled it off piece by piece for about a month and wiped the last bits off with thinners.

preserved the car nicely though the rest was rotten :-)

I use a paint stripping heat gun (what you get from B&Q to take gloss off doors).A couple of seconds to warm the u/seal, then a quick scrape with a paint scraper, job done!

I use one of them to heat the lead I'm using instead of filler :D

much more effective than a blow lamp.

Try a wire wheel on the end of a drill m8.

worked 4 me
