Yes, I've owned a 16valve, a G60 and a VR6. If you buy the 16valve don't ever drive one of the other two as you'll always wish you'd bought one of them instead. They're great cars and are what VW should have reinvented instead of the scirroco and :shit::shit: Beetle

I can't really help on the reliability thing as all of mine were bullet proof (but admittedly were much younger than they are now). The G60's do have a reputation for supercharger problems though.

cheers chaps, its not for me its for the missus......and its cheap. ill watch out for that synchro prob but i guess its no big deal to put another box in it if you had to.

does 140k sound high? admitadly its a G reg so not supprisisng, just wondered if they ever make that sort of milage - thats more diesel territory!

My G60 had done around 135000 when I sold it in about 1999 though it's based on the 8valve engine. Just done a search on it and it hasn't been taxed since 2001 so it evidently didn't last that much longer though that could be for a number of reasons.

Make sure all the electrics work including the rear spoiler, which should go up at around 50mph.

Electric sunroofs can break and are expensive to fix.

Check the trip computer too. If it's not working right, it may have been clocked.

My mate has one and its had issues with rust, and he has had problems with the rear suspension, he said clunking noises when pushing hard are a big give away and he said check the electrics as any ignition issues cost big bucks to put right. Also check it hasnt been razzed to death and look for accedent damage or signs of a respray
