Anyone else lost money?

Todays annoucement that the Icelandic bank Landsbanki has gone under has left us with a bitter taste in our mouths, my wife had only a month ago transferred her ISA to them. Lots of money gone with seemingly only a slim chance of seeing it again as the first £16000 has to be covered by the icelandic compensation scheme, it seems they have 88 million to cover deposits totalling 13 billion.

Gutted doesn't really cover it, we've both worked so hard in order to put money away for the future.

I'm sorry to hear that Vista

Fortunately or unfortunately for me I don't have enough spare to save so I won't have that problem but I feel for those who have worked hard to save spare pennies only to lose them :(

That's just not right. What's the point in working hard these day's only to get fooked over

People who sit on their arse and do fook all get looked after and land on their feet

These were all her savings and she's built it up over years. I'm feeling especially bad as it was me who badgered her to change provider (a few months ago) as her old provider was paying a really poor interest rate.

I'm sorry to hear that Scott

I manage to find other ways of losing money without it ever reaching the bank :( But I do feel for people who have managed to save and have lost it through the banks :(

the economy is in swings and round abouts mate... when the economy gets better (probably not soon), hopefully that money will still be there? if the banks are dissolved, hopefully another will take it's place... sit tight and hope for the best!

in the mean time, commiserations for your loss and lets all go mug an overpaid banker!

some twat, head of a bank had earned 1/2 billion  in bonuses, and his shitty decisions made the bank fooked! how wrong is that, now loadsa hard working, hard saving people foot his bill?

at least this crisis should put some laws into place!

safest place for your money is in yer pocket...ive allways said that...at least you can try and fight off a mugger but as for banks you got no chance.

There is that, but every day you keep it in your pocket, inflation nibbles its value away. So is it actually safe in your pocket? £1000 invested in a high interest account in 1980 would be worth a lot more now. Keep it in your pocket for 28 years and it's worth still worth £1000 and it's purchasing power has been completly eroded. It's effectively worth SFA compared to what it would have been if invested for that time.
