Beakster Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Two questions about making Pintos look pretty:): 1) I've just cleaned up an inlet manifold so its nice and shiny. How do I keep it that way? Just keep cleaning it? Laquer it? Or do I have to Paint it? 2) I've painted the engine block, and will be painting the spark plug hole bits in the head. But what about the machined surfaces? Can I paint them too? If so do I need to apply the paint after the bits are on it, e.g. water pump, inlet/exhaust manifolds? Or should I just leave it bare? Or laquer it? Cheers -Chris
escort21 Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Don't paint machined faces it e a bodge and looks shit, could laquer the inlet but have to do it properly as if water gets underneath it'll look shit

Beakster Posted November 17, 2008 Author Report Posted November 17, 2008 Don't paint machined faces it e a bodge and looks shit, could laquer the inlet but have to do it properly as if water gets underneath it'll look shit Thats what I thought, but all these guys above seem to have painted their machined faces. Although I'm not keen on the look, it looks better than it would if you don't paint it and it goes all rusty. Does the paint affect the seal on the inlet/exhaust manifolds and waterpump?
Supercharged Nat Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Beakster i painted my head with some proper brush on VHT black paint. i just used the maifolds as something to paint around. that way the bits that shouldnt be painted dont get painted! the block was done using smooth hammerite but that will burn off in seconds on the head. the VHT stuff i used, me old man brought some home from work, they paint their exhausts in it. I doubt its an expensive product because i know they dont like spending money! its does smoke like hell for a few mins on the first start up though
caprinerd Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 i can vouch for that just start it up and walk away as the fumes gave me head ache
twincarb Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Wish i had a (shiny ) engine .... Wish i had a engine at all... Sob.....
