oldbus Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 I´ve just about finished prepping the bodywork on the Capri and i´ll be over next week to get some decent paint on it. Now in order to get it registered over here i´ll have to put all the original running gear back in but once all the formalities are sorted i´d like to bin the V6 boat anchor and have some fun. I´d bought a 24V Cossi Scorpio and was going to fit that but my van decided to blow it´s engine this summer so the 24V is going in there..... If it´s expensive it´s not an option, this is not a cheque book restauration (she wouldn´t give it to me! ) i´m not into engine tuning as I haven´t got the foggiest but wouldn´nt mind shoehorning something different in there. Autobox is not a problem either.... Lexus any good? Volvo/Saab Turbo? BMW V8? Or should i just drop a 302 in there... What do you guys think, out of the box 300 BHP for the Capri? Cheers, Dave
hellblue Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Thats easy.................302 oh the sound of an 8
oldbus Posted November 22, 2008 Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 Thats easy.................302 oh the sound of an 8 You´re so right Gary but it´s been a bit ....erm overdone before, not too sure?
5hane Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 volvo twincam powwerss get a 740 2.3 turbo engine, and a 16v head loads of tuning parts for it too a 8 valve will lst up to about 300bhp they recon, and a 16valver much much more. you know it makes sence EDIT: unless you want 300bhp out the box?
supersport Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Lexus V8 is a bit different, if you can find one.

oldbus Posted November 22, 2008 Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 Lexus V8 is a bit different, if you can find one. I´ve heard a lot of good things about these engines...i think the electrics could be a bit of a pain though....
Admin Vista Posted November 22, 2008 Admin Report Posted November 22, 2008 American V8's are best left in the dump trucks they come from.............................. Italian V8's however Ok they;'re only 230bhp SAE in stock trim but are only 2.6 litres and can produce a lot more. The tweaked autodelta one in the bottom pic is 360bhp and they come standard with quad overhead cams, fuel injection, dry sump lube and electronic ignition.

Not a bad idea but probably way out of my (nearly non existant) budget!
Admin Vista Posted November 22, 2008 Admin Report Posted November 22, 2008 Not a bad idea but probably way out of my (nearly non existant) budget! They are a fantastic engine as they're also very light being all alloy, however it has to be said they are indeed very expensive to rebuild. Being so rare most of the parts cost and arm and a leg, a set of four cams will be around £2500 and just the main and big end bearings will set you back £500 odd. Thank Christ mine didn't need cams eh?
oldbus Posted November 22, 2008 Author Report Posted November 22, 2008 what about audi? You can pick up cheap V8´s over here but they´re all 4wd, most off them have only 250bhp and have all been thrashed within an inch of there lives.....believe me i used to have one!

It's because they have to be custom made, there wasn't many of the cars they were installed in made so the demand is fairly low.

Yeomans22 Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 have a look for an old bmw 635i or 535i, straight 6 cylinder, 24v 3.5 litre and 286bhp standard.
brettp Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 v8 cant beat the sound or the power delivery just dont go auto
John boy Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 Yank V8 if you want cheap power you cann't go wrong really. Personally i'd have a 350 chevy not a fan of the 302 it's pysically larger than the chevy and heavyer and not as powerful. If you ge tan automake sure it has a shift kit fitted.
Beakster Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 have a look for an old bmw 635i or 535i, straight 6 cylinder, 24v 3.5 litre and 286bhp standard. I like the sound of this one. I lived in Australia for a while and there's loads of straight 6s there. Always thought one would go really well in a Capri bay as even V8s usually have a massive gap at the front when fitted. Would probably need a mod to the front cross member too. If I was fitting a straight 6 it would be one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-EF-EL-XR6-T ... 240%3A1318 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Ford-Falcon-Fair ... 240%3A1318 Very cheap and 220bhp & 270lb/ft as standard. Only problem would be the shipping charge from Australia. But its different, and its a Ford/Tickford engine so you could put a Tickford badge on the Capri and really confuse people.
ASBO CAPRI Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 350ci chevys the way but I would say that around 260hp and 350ft/lb for one running stock heads and cam. You could probably pick one up for a few hundred quid.
