every time i see one for sale its either been restored or it needs a total restoration ?

earlier cars never seem as bad in general ?

Simple answer, Not enough paint, A mate of mine had his resprayed after a couple of years the back of the wings by the A posts had only primer on and no top coat. There is a story going around that they intended to only make 500 cars so ordered enough paint for that many cars, and some one noticed that there was 1038 shells still in the factory so they used them up, so they had to stretch out the paint to do the cars with.

A fella at my work told me that capris of around 86-87 era were made using cheap metal that rusts more than the metal used on earlier shells. probably why my 87 laser has a bit of rot but all the 70s to early 80s capris i've had had much better shells.

i have an 86 laser with not a lot of rust so thats that theory out the window as all the later capri`s are based on the 2.8 shells and were made in germany for the british market, they were made with german steel

there are 4 shades of brooky green and they were orignaly going to call it the capri 500 as thats how many were going to be made but that went out the window so its known as the brooky instead

the paint on the brooky was very thin and hence the reason they rot

Posted

as people have said, paint, they only mixed enough for 500 cars, but decided to make more but not bother mixin more paint, so early brookies aren't too bad as they had a decent coat of paint, but the later brookies had a very thin coat

I bet the Ford workers plain didn't give a toss about painting or rustproofing them correctly. The Capri was an ancient joke at that time, the Brookie would have just looked like a quick tart up job to shift some old shells to anyone working there I bet. I doubt they were built with the reverence that many enthusiasts give them now

Scrapping more like LOL

oh yea and see that ebay link to the brookie capri, the very last pic is showing a rotten bit of metal that i didnt think was actually a standard panel on capri's?

the bit that stops all the shite getting up behind the wing? neither of my capri's had this... just a big hole

Can't say I'm a big fan either..... love MK3 Capri's but if I had a Brookie I'd probably respray it, fit different wheels, a cloth interior and a different engine
