Noodles Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Bloody Halifax are trying to charge me £63 for goin over drawn on a over draft I never agreed to, has anyone battle the banks and got thier money back?
Admin Vista Posted February 10, 2009 Admin Report Posted February 10, 2009 I don't get it, they didn't agree to an overdraft limit or you didn't? If you didn't agree to having an overdraft limit and then went overdrawn anyway I'd say you're elligible to pay some charges, the recent publicity is over what constitutes reasonable charges however and assuming the amount overdrawn was small £63 sounds excessive. At the end of the day all it's going to cost you is an envelope, piece of paper and a stamp to wite and complain stating that you feel the charges are unreasonable and you'd like them refunded.
Noodles Posted February 10, 2009 Author Report Posted February 10, 2009 If I did'nt agree to a over draft then I expect when my account gets to £0.00 no more transactions should be allowed they should not give me money I havent got then charge me for it I will just have to write to them and hope for the best
trevb Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 There are quite a few web sites out there with lots of good advice about things like this, just do a quick search on google. Oh, and good luck.
Dr Feelgood Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 good luck with it but the same thing happened to me they let me go overdrawn when i had no money cos i assumed they would just reject it but i only got charged a tenner
Deano1351 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Iv had it with hsbc a couple of times, only gone a couple of quid over and theyv tried to charge £25. I sent them a shitty e-mail telling them i was disgusted with them and instead of being the worlds local bank they should be the worlds biggest rip off bank and hey presto, charges cancelled, they dont like to lose customers, same with orange and their phone upgrades, never pay for anything, they need you more
Yeomans22 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 i work for Lloyds tsb. if the charges arn't ur fault u'll get them back, if there your own fault, u can ask and u will be told to wait until the courts decide if their fair or not, depending on what they say depends on if u get them back. Paul.
Posse Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Don't get me started on this but all i can say is go on a site called money matters .
Posse Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 How the fook yeah. can the banks charge you for a unauthorised borrowing fee if you have'nt unauthorised them?
livewire7116 Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Years ago i had problem with lloyds tsb, they would not pay a direct debit cos it would of put me overdrawn by £2, so they then charged me £30 for returning a direct debit unpaid which put me £12 overdrawn! and to top it off charged me another £25 for an unauthorised overdraft which topped it upto £37 in total, for sake of waiting to see if funds were paid in withing nextr 24hrs it could of saved a load of paperwork!
pelvins Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Years ago i had problem with lloyds tsb, they would not pay a direct debit cos it would of put me overdrawn by £2, so they then charged me £30 for returning a direct debit unpaid which put me £12 overdrawn! and to top it off charged me another £25 for an unauthorised overdraft which topped it upto £37 in total, for sake of waiting to see if funds were paid in withing nextr 24hrs it could of saved a load of paperwork! thats boll***s i hate banks
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 I've had loads of problems with the Halifax. They charge £35 for each bounced direct debit. £28 for going over your overdraft. They're just starting a new account. This one gives you £5 every month. But then charges you £1 for every day you use your overdraft. and £5 for every day you are over your overdraft. So if 5 days before you get paid you go into your overdraft you get have to pay £0. ie: £5 - (£1 x 5) If you go over your overdraft 5 days before you get paid you have to pay £25. ie: £5 - (£1 x 5) + (£5 x 5) And it doesn't matter how many times Direct debits fail during that time.
Cookie Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Cash is king, Thats all I have to say, I hate banks with a vengence and will only put money in just to cover debits that there is no possible other way of paying....... They got you bang over a barrell and they know it...
jimbo Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 I'm with Halifax. When I've had to go overdrawn (e.g. broken down and needed to pay for recovery) I've rung up, been polite, persistent and reasonable. Always got my money back Wasn't always the case though........I worked my way through NatWest and HSBC beofre I realised that the problem was men being shit with cash......learnt to budget my cash and always know where I am with it.........Now working hard to pay off all my debts and do without an overdraft. I can't wait for the day where the money in my pay packet is all mine and not the banks/card companies
Noodles Posted February 13, 2009 Author Report Posted February 13, 2009 Good news gave em a call and they dropped the charges
jimbo Posted February 13, 2009 Report Posted February 13, 2009 Nice work...........I didn't think they'd be that unreasonable. They can't afford to lose customers these days
