SAF_Capri Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 Is my capri now marmite by going XE? ... do people really get upset whenan engine is changed to a non ford one? i know its an old debate of power/cost/being different etc... but i think its a great one
Admin Vista Posted March 24, 2009 Admin Report Posted March 24, 2009 There are a few purists out there that might tut tut but that's their problem, you do what's right for you and a fast engine is a fast engine whoever it's made by.
Fiesta Steve Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 The XE is a Cosworth engine, right ? and weren't they owned by Ford ? So its technically a Ford engine anyhow
pauln Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 It's your car, stick 2 fingers up and go out and enjoy it.
4parajon Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 The XE is a Cosworth engine, right ? and weren't they owned by Ford ? So its technically a Ford engine anyhow Dont think thats entirely accurate Steve Think Cosworth designed the head they eventually used in production, but that's about it I think. Did Ford ever own Cosworth, I thought they had always been a privately owned business My twopennorth worth on the engine question is that although I personally would'nt use a non Ford engine in one of my cars, I dont have a problem with anyone else using one. IMO Ford made plenty of good quality units to chhose from

caprinerd Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 i love this sort of thing spose its because i like to upset the purists a bit, each to their own taste but mine is mod the hell out of your motor
lazy Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 i say go for it. ford engines have many downsides to other production cars. ie. cosworths are expensive to tune and buy, and what are they standard? 220 - 230bhp? now consider the 200sx, subaru, vauxhal xe, toyotas 4age, vw's 2.0ltr 20v turbo or vr6. I think if power is what your going for then the choices of engines is vast. I think the toyota supras 3.0 ltr twin turbo would be good in a capri. being supras are japans answer to the capri, get the best of both!!!
SAF_Capri Posted March 24, 2009 Author Report Posted March 24, 2009 Well its hopefully being swung in this saturday, i thought long and hard about what engine, swayed away from the duratec at the last minute purely to expense. I like being different, its what this whole scene is about right?
mk1super Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 You do what you want mate its your car if they say anything nut em
285Andy Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 yeah just fit what YOU want i got some very wierd responses when asked what engine i was fitting im my 100e. (not from OSF.co. i should add) i couldnt care a toss if anyone turns there nose up at it
SAF_Capri Posted March 24, 2009 Author Report Posted March 24, 2009 to right...as you'd get in it, pull away and grin to yourself

stevepeanut Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 I'd love to stick an XE in my mk2 at the end of the day, if the car is faster than it was to start with, then you have done good.
marky4 Posted March 24, 2009 Report Posted March 24, 2009 i'm all for using differant engines and the XE is a good engine anyway it's your car so do what pleases you
PlopPlop Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Purists do what they want to their cars, you do what you want to do, simples.
SmokeEm Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Do whatever gives you the most bang per buck
mk2griff Posted March 25, 2009 Report Posted March 25, 2009 Go for it shane.its your car if thats what you want to do to it ,you do it.everyone has different tastes.
Admin Mk2Jo Posted March 25, 2009 Admin Report Posted March 25, 2009 Plenty of peeps on here with XE'd motors. Your car so you do what you like mate . Some will like it, some will want to kill you
themelv Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 After having a 260bhp mr2 turbo for a year (sorry) I'd love to squeeze a supra turbo lump into my capri. I'd leave it retro looking even down to chrome and banded steel rims, maybe even beige paint? You can't argue with a reliable 4-500 bhp! For that I wouldn't mind if it was build by Harold Shipman!!!
DAZZA Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Jeds Angry box KJ's Mk1 etc etc..... Nuf said.
Johnson Posted March 27, 2009 Report Posted March 27, 2009 Jeds Angry box KJ's Mk1 etc etc..... Nuf said. agreed, so long as it goes like stink who cares, just dont start bolting pauxhall parts to the outside for any reason
