Admin Mk2Jo Posted April 2, 2009 Admin Report Posted April 2, 2009 We have, at last, heard back from Brighton Marina Events and unfortunately due to building works throughout this summer, the Marina is not available as a venue for us in 2009! Johnny has been trying to organise this since before Christmas and they have only just confirmed to us the situation. We have tried to secure Madeira Drive but unfortunately at this late stage there are no days left for road closure of Madeira Drive this year as all planned days have been allocated already We are left with a few possible options, one of them being an alternative venue and we would like to try and gauge your opinions on this. Admin and Mods have considered the idea of somewhere like Bournemouth or Southsea along the south coast - how would people feel about this? Obviously, this would mean it would not be London to Brighton but your opinions would be most welcome. Unfortunately, Johnny has decided that he cannot continue with arranging an alternative destination/route and we would just like to thank him for his efforts and support this year and for the past 2 years with this event - it really has been much appreciated - cheeRS mate Believe me, we are as gutted as many of you will be but it does mean that for next year we will pull out all the stops to get Madeira Drive but for 2009 before resorting back to the possibility of the Marina
Lardy Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Hello jo what about one of the parks as you arrive on the outskirts of brighton i have seen a mini meet there and a vw and a moggie one too its a big area probably accomadate a lot more cars
Contract Man Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Not sure if it matters if the run is to Brighton or not. The marina was a fair venue, but for me going round the M25 in a convoy 40+ old fords was what it was all about. Once it got to Pease pottage it died off and there were loads of clumps of cars after that. Anywhere on the coast is good for me
glenbo Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 I DONT THINK PEOPLE WILL MIND IF THE RUN ISNT TO BRIGHTON,ITS ALL ABOUT A CONVOY OFF OLDSKOOL FORDS,HOW ABOUT A RUN TO BEAULIE AND A DRIVE THROUGH THE NEW FOREST?
lee_capri Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 we will come could go to south end in stead just like the mod's im game dont mater were we end up
SebringRS Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Hello jo what about one of the parks as you arrive on the outskirts of brighton i have seen a mini meet there and a vw and a moggie one too its a big area probably accomadate a lot more cars I second tht idea, them parks are huge, plus it still means we've got the convoy from london 2 brighton. But to be honest, anywheres fine for us
Smudger105e Posted April 2, 2009 Report Posted April 2, 2009 Hello jo what about one of the parks as you arrive on the outskirts of brighton i have seen a mini meet there and a vw and a moggie one too its a big area probably accommodate a lot more cars Quite a few years ago we had the same thought when we arranged a L2B for the Anglia Owners' Club. We contacted Brighton Borough Council (as it was then) and they said it was policy to keep vehicles out of Preston Park (the big park), and declined to give permission to use it. Might be worth a try again though, tell them that the Marina isn't available, money into the local economy etc etc...
Mr.Sumo Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Just an idea , but what about STEYNE GARDENS in WORTHING ? They used to , or maybe still do , have a Custom Car show there every year....might be worth a call.....and its right on the seafront i know its not Brighton , but its pretty close . you could take the run round the M25 , down the M23 to Pease Pottage , then take the A24 all the way down . 90% of the A24 is dual carraigeway as well....... Thats my tuppence worth
Smudger105e Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 Or M23, A23 to Brighton then A27 along to Worthing, its only 12 miles from Brighton...
Admin Mk2Jo Posted April 3, 2009 Author Admin Report Posted April 3, 2009 Smudger, we have been onto all the depts in the council and none of them can accommodate us as we are too large a group and Madeira Drive does not have any spare days left to close the road I will have a look at the other places suggested, thanks guys
styut Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 That's a real shame - personally I thought the marina was a great venue, and my kids always ask if we're going to Brighton again whenever they see a sign to it. Let's hope we can get an equally good venue this year, and a big thanks to the organisers for taking the time and effort to organise these events
Admin Mk2Jo Posted April 3, 2009 Author Admin Report Posted April 3, 2009 It is REALLY disappointing that we can't go to the Marina again but we have been chasing the people at the Marina for many months now and they have only just had a meeting to decide on dates for closure so it has been out of our hands Thanks for your support though
aden Posted April 3, 2009 Report Posted April 3, 2009 damn what a shame big thanks though to johnny and everyone else for trying
Tom Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 What about a day at the beach? At West Wittering, near Chichester, they have a nice beach with a HUGE carpark. Beach, Beer, BBQ's and OSF - just a thought

tazrocks88 Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 i know u talked about the race course last year is that not poss? as it would then mean its still london 2 brighton! will be a shame not 2 have the marina tho its such a good venue! but i think it should be kept as close 2 brighton as poss or u might as well say the run is cancelled this year and that something totally different is happening(like a BBQ in chichester)! just my opinion!
louie bagel Posted April 4, 2009 Report Posted April 4, 2009 i dont care where we go aslong as were in convoy in fact i'd be happy to just drive round the m25 nurbergring styleee
BIG G Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Instead of the london to brighton run We could have our own RUN TO THE SUN like tom said Or anywhere near the sea on a sat would be good then we could camp and get drunk
trevb Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 Tis a big shame that we cant go to the marina, but we still have to do something! would love the idea of going somewhere we can camp for the night. Cheers, T
bashbymk2 Posted April 5, 2009 Report Posted April 5, 2009 steyne gardens in worthing is always a good pick, however run to the sun sounds phat!
