i know of a rare osf in a broken into lock-up (it was the last time i visited) can't find the owner, could be an old boy who can't get out to visit his council lock-up anymore ,or it may be abandoned . should i save it or watch it die by the hand of the chavs ? how does the law stand on this? any coppers here ? the council will not give out any info or even the old bill, much rather it got wrecked :(

just go get it, worst that can happen is if the owner is still alive that he wants it back. the owner could well be deceased and this car will eventually be scrapped by the council when they come to clear out the lockup. if its been broken into and nobody has done anything about it then chances are whoever owns/owned it doesnt care.

the council must know who the lock up is rented out to?

I reckon rescue and ask questions later :ykt:

Go door knocking locally,if still no joy drag it out and apply for the log book.

The DVLA will send the current owner a letter asking permission to change keeper details. If the owner dosent contact them within x-amount of days the DVLA will issue you with a log book.

This dosent make you the legal owner of the car though

if i had the space i would take it,just waiting for the estate to be sold then might go on a rescue mission.i could knock on doors but the estate is massive round there :( i would be happy for the owner to be found.

heres a pic of the car P1010482.jpg

the council can't be counted on to do the most simple things so sorting out arrears on a garage, that the person who rents it might be paying a reduced rent and very little if anything for the garage, might not even show up.off the road for over 20 years who knows what the story is.going to check on it over the weekend.

you can claim ownership i did it with an abandon mk2 transit once if you ask the council to contact the owner if he is dead or moved on they can give you the ok to take it away speek to the dvla they will give you all the info

I had that problem when i had my capri...

Its true if you apply for a log book including a covering letter explaning the situation, they will contact the previous owner on your behalf.

They then give period of time....believe it was a month.....untill they will allow you to register the vehicle in your name..

Legally.....the car then becomes yours because of some clause in the law of time lapse and lack of contact.

Worked with my capri anyway!

just been to the garage and it looks like the owner must have been found, the doors locked and from the look of the weeds infront of the door, the car is safe again inside :)
