lee_capri Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 righ me new engine and box going in hairyoldtina next week is a lot faster then the old one but that's not the problum me mk3 speedo only go's to 110 mph and i need a speedo that will go to 150 mph the clock's in the other car wont fit any idea's has i dont want to cut me dash about to sort
Admin Vista Posted May 9, 2009 Admin Report Posted May 9, 2009 Where do you plan to be doing more than a 110mph in it? I'd just leave it as is
V8ian Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 if the engine you are fitting will rev to the same max RPM as the old engine, the car will not go any faster top end, and as a result, speedos dont normally need changing about, LEAVE IT ALONE!!!
lee_capri Posted May 9, 2009 Author Report Posted May 9, 2009 it will go about 40mph faster then it used to flat out tryed and tested on a private road
lee_capri Posted May 9, 2009 Author Report Posted May 9, 2009 wellme crossflow used to pull a ton just me new set up i have had 140 out of and it's a pinto i was very it took a but of distance to go the last 5mph but it did it and if no one belive's me i dont care because it is a bit unusal for a pinto to do that i think
Fiesta Steve Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 You need big bhp to pull big mph, must me 220+ bhp
lee_capri Posted May 9, 2009 Author Report Posted May 9, 2009 well that's what the speedo said and i was raceing a new saab at the time and dis agree with your bhp mate has me old merc was only 170bhp and that would do 145 mate, got a funny felling it has a lot more to it then i relised and the thing is a good pinto should pull 120 any-way steve and that's with out tuneing it go's round to 130 and creep's to 140
Fiesta Steve Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 You might be surprised how much more power you need to find 5 mph
emu Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 You might be surprised how much more power you need to find 5 mph something like 30% increase in power to get 10% higher top speed I beleive Mind your speedo probably isnt that accurate either. They tend to get worse the faster you go.

They tend to get worse the faster you go. every thing get's worse the faster you go it can push 135 no problum it's just that last little bit,but im ripping it all out very soon so im going to investergate further and may be whack a set of twin carb's on has well
lee_capri Posted May 9, 2009 Author Report Posted May 9, 2009 You might be surprised how much more power you need to find 5 mph i know what your saying steve but when i was younger a good pinto would pull 120 any-way like your old 2.0s cappa and they wer'nt 205 block's in the early one's either, the old serria gls i they rev limter would cout in a 135 and make a pingping ping has they were flat out mate
caprinerd Posted May 9, 2009 Report Posted May 9, 2009 use to pull 130 in my old 2.0S on the M1 years back, when i lived in bedford and worked in london
