LEONMEX Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 Looking to get a 2 1/2" or 2 1/4" manifold & system for my mk1 escy with pinto, got a peter lloyd 2" manifold & system at the mo & its s**t keeps cracking & fits s**t,any ideas?? any advice much apreciated.
Admin Vista Posted December 21, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 21, 2006 I've just bought a 3 piece 2 1/4" ashley manifold, haven't fitted it yet so can't really comment. I'd be interested in anything anyone else has to say about one of these though. As to the system mines a 2 1/4" custom stainless one from longlife, a bit pricey but I can't recommend them enough.
LEONMEX Posted December 21, 2006 Author Report Posted December 21, 2006 Where did you get the ashley 3pc from & rough idea on price? as ive been quoted from £105 to £195 for the same manifold,im thinking of getting a complete system & west wales rally spares seem the cheapest at £210 for manifold & 2 box system.
Admin Vista Posted December 21, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 21, 2006 I got it off ebay brand new and paid £105 Rally design do them I think, but I doubt you'll get them any cheaper than buying direct from Ashley try quoting OSF for a discount, you never know your luck http://www.ashleyexhausts.co.uk/product ... id=1411075
johnny_h Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 I'm looking for a noo exhaust so will be watchin this one closely. I have a janspeed system and manifold atm but i want a larger system.
LEONMEX Posted December 21, 2006 Author Report Posted December 21, 2006 Thanks for that vistaRS,im gona ring west wales in the morn as there manifold is £105 & its £145 on the ashley website so gona check it is an ashley,is ashley stuff usually o.k?
Admin Vista Posted December 21, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 21, 2006 I'm told that the systems can be a bitch to fit, I don't know about the manifolds...................yet
tim Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 ashley stuff is cheap and sounds very nice but is a bitch to fit
Twinkle Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 manifolds can be a shite to fit, had to grind the welds down on the flanges as they were so bulky the manifold nuts wouldnt tighten up as the welds were in the way
LEONMEX Posted December 21, 2006 Author Report Posted December 21, 2006 Mmmm, might just bite the bullet & get an ashley as i dont know of any other manufacturers of 3pc manifolds that are atleast half decent. VistaRS when are you fitting the manifold to your RS?
Admin Vista Posted December 21, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 21, 2006 I want to do it now.......but I'm having a 2.2 bottom end built by a local firm and it isn't gonna be ready till the end of January so I might wait till then. Plus my system is tailor made to the old 4 2 1 manifold so I'm probably gonna need to get that adjusted to fit. Time for a JRE plug methinks http://www.jreracingengines.com./ this guy builds some seriously quick metal especially in XE guise.
LEONMEX Posted December 21, 2006 Author Report Posted December 21, 2006 My mate has a 2.2ht pinto in his mk2 escy,we done a track day 2 weeks ago & it p****d all over my 2.1 & loadsa scoobys & evos on 45s it makes 196bhp on 50s the bloke at HT reckons 220bhp. goes like f**k.
Admin Vista Posted December 21, 2006 Admin Report Posted December 21, 2006 Mine is currently around 170 at the flywheel @ 6000rpm on a standard bottom end, so I'm hoping for big things when I can rev it a bit higher with a stronger bottom end. plus the extra 200cc (no substitute for CC eh?)
LEONMEX Posted December 21, 2006 Author Report Posted December 21, 2006 Yeah his 2.2 is rapid,my 2.1 is a basic setup & ive got a fresh 1 going in at the mo for more power i hope?? His revs to 8500rpm all day long & really does fly. Thats where i got the idea from for a bigger manifold as he has a 3pc 2 1/2" sytem.
james p Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 Thanks for that vistaRS,im gona ring west wales in the morn as there manifold is £105 & its £145 on the ashley website so gona check it is an ashley,is ashley stuff usually o.k? i use a full ashley system the manfold needed a litte file around the welds but that was the only i found you need one of the new ones with thw wider opening on the connectos as they slip together better
Twinkle Posted December 21, 2006 Report Posted December 21, 2006 i had that problem too, bought system and manifold at the same time from rally design they didnt realise ahley had changed the sizes!! ashley in their defence sent a sleeve to fit it
LEONMEX Posted December 29, 2006 Author Report Posted December 29, 2006 Went to order My 3piece 2 1/2 manifold today & was told i need a world cup-x-member so thought bolox & spoke to a few people & this is the case im told So ended up getting another 2inch manifold. My m8s got a 3piece on his mk2 & had to cut his x-member to make it fit but i didnt want to do that. Does any body run a 3piece with standard x-member.
bomber1 Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 sorry to hi jack but does the 2 1/2 four branch have clearance issues with a pinto in escort
LEONMEX Posted December 29, 2006 Author Report Posted December 29, 2006 I was told you cant run it with a servo, buts thats no prob as ive not got 1,but also was told they hit the x-member As i said my m8 had to cut his x-member to get his to fit.
bomber1 Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 feek dont think it will be any good then as i have the long gate servo
LEONMEX Posted December 29, 2006 Author Report Posted December 29, 2006 I might be wrong but thats just what ive been told by a few people today, ill be told im wrong in a mo. (watch this space)
BIG G Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 nothings easy with old escorts. a 2.5 " manifold is on my new years list so are peter loyd a bit rubbish i think there made by sportex
LEONMEX Posted December 29, 2006 Author Report Posted December 29, 2006 My last 2inch system came from peter lloyd & it was an arse to fit,got it fitted in the end week later manifold snapped so rung p.lloyd told me my engine mounts must be fooked (brand new mounts so i doubt it!) so got the manifold fixed two weeks later fookin cracked got it fixed done a track day few weeks ago fookin snapped again took it off but it in the bin. got an ashley one today & that looks loads better The welds on the p.lloyd manifold was the week point on the manifold & the rest of the exhaust was crap aswell. The ashley one looks loads better, although ive not fitted it yet
flyingbanana Posted December 29, 2006 Report Posted December 29, 2006 i had probs with mine cracking,on the 3rd one now,4 branch, i made a bracket that holds it near the starter motor has it has alot of play so far it hasnt cracked once yet
