I'm starting to get worried now, I've put a lot of cash into this project already, so I don't want to end up with a car that's useless to meย ๐ what is it? has the monocoque been altered?

Escort estate, only change to monocoque is larger tunnel to take the gearbox. Everything else is Ford available at the time (1975) apart from the ST170 and the Rx8 box. If pushed, I could rebuild the T9 I have and use that.

katana Posted February 11, 2021 Report Posted February 11, 2021 Requesting Engineers reports seem to have become more prevalent in 'maybe' the past 5 years relating to engine swaps, engine changes and even re-registration of old cars off the road for years and not SORN'd. So its not surprising to me! In all honesty, as a DIY conversion, as far as the DVLA are concerned your welding could be extremely sketchy and that could put other road users at risk - if nothing else, it would be good to give your insurers as well to reduce that potential liability?ย 1
notenoughtime Posted February 11, 2021 Report Posted February 11, 2021 A friend of mine bought a mk2 mexico, they wouldnโt return the V5 without pics of tramp bar brackets, strut tops, interior, spare wheel strap mountย 1
colr6 Posted February 11, 2021 Report Posted February 11, 2021 (edited) The DVLA are a world on their own and you wonโt change that!! Iโve had two instances, one the MG which had one of the first style v5s mot certs the lot. They wanted to know the far end of a fart before giving me a new v5 in my name. No alterations totally std but months of wrangling to get one. The Harrier was off the road since 99 no logbook but applied for a book off the reg and chassis number, 2/3 weeks later log book in my name ! No consistency whatsoever. Itโs just like a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get ๐ค ย wait till I have a go at getting a bike registered from the old buff style book and to top it all a wrong frame number. Seriously it has got better, but I'll probably use the garage I get all my work done at to do a check/report for me. He's straight as a dye and does all my MOTs and does it by the book. Armed with the info you guys have given me, I'll press on. It's been SORN'd the whole time it's been off the road, and in my name since I bought it last year, so that bit is covered. As long as they give me the opportunity to get it properly sorted I don't mind. I'll be going for historic tax, but it will be MOT'd every year. Thanks for the advice, we'll see........
