flyingbanana Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 I am still amazed at the amount of HGVs that travel 10 meters behind the one in front. Being allowed to drive one at 18 is worrying, there should be at least a few years in a car/3.5 van first only way to even try and get to overtake with a bit of help from slip stream.....and then its still a pain has most lorrys are limted to 56mph...hence why you lorrys taking so long to overtake.
Fiesta Steve Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 what company is going to get insurance for 18 year olds to drive class one or even two for that matter, The company I work for.
Ken B Posted September 11, 2009 Report Posted September 11, 2009 Sadly i have to say the most near misses(with HGV's) I've seen and indeed nearly had collisions with myself are the left hookers. they seem to have very little regard for anything coming up on their blindside. I have even seen one or two that have overtakin me, where the driver is watchin a film on a TV screen or laptop perched on the dash.
FredTransit Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 Anybody know if there will be exclusions for the driver's CPC by grandfather rights?
bigglesmk2 Posted September 12, 2009 Author Report Posted September 12, 2009 Anybody know if there will be exclusions for the driver's CPC by grandfather rights? Yes mate anybody who allready holds a HGV licence has grandfarther rights for 5 years, after which we have to do the CPC course. 35 hours training and im still not clear who has to pay for it,me or my boss
mk3cokebottle Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 i reckon to be fair that if you are confident and sensible then fair play if you can pass your test , there are people of all ages that mess around whilst driving a car, bike, trike, bus, or truck ......... i know its wrong now but when i travelled with the funfair at just 16 i was driving an old 6 speed scammell wagon with two drags one of them being my caravan/trailer which was on a fifth wheel behind the ride too and from grounds i have wanted to do my class 1/2 since but have never had the amount of money and free time to get it done maybe if when i was younger before moving out and getting my own place and was able to put money away i would have been able to do it and have a trade for life ........ and to be fair trucks are the backbone of the economy so there will always be jobs available
bomber1 Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 I would like to see a lot more unmarked police cars on the motorway, most HGV drivers are very professional skilled drivers. But over the last few years that I have been on motorways I have seen some utter lunatics. I am still amazed at the amount of HGVs that travel 10 meters behind the one in front. Being allowed to drive one at 18 is worrying, there should be at least a few years in a car/3.5 van first i would like to see more police on the roads because 19 /20 its a car driver that is in the wrong not the hgv driver. cars pull out under yer front wheels cut accross you beacuse they cant sit behind a truck or traffic for 2 minutes chris if u are serious about lorry driving ring them straight after crimbo. thats how i done my class1 for £650 all in the cpc is to bring all drivers into line with modern rules and regs. as far as im aware its one day in the classroom each year. for drivers that passed 10yrs ago plus think of how the rules have changed in the last2 yrs let alone 40. imo the cpc will be a good thing should make the roads safer as far as uk drivers/lorrys are concerned sita are paying for us to be put through the cpc as i would have thought all companys will do but what the small companys do or part time drivers get i dont know
mk3cokebottle Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 chris if u are serious about lorry driving ring them straight after crimbo. thats how i done my class1 for £650 all in would you pm me the number of the company that you went with .... also do you have too go through the whole motion of -7.5t-class2 then class 1 or can you just go straight for the class 1 and be entitled to drive all three
Daggle Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 I passed my rigid HGV driving test on friday , got the bendy bit coming up in November, all paid for through the job!! Can't use it for hire and reward though have to do that CPC stuff.
Fiesta Steve Posted September 12, 2009 Report Posted September 12, 2009 I would like to see a lot more unmarked police cars on the motorway fpmsl Doesn't that kinda defeat the object
mk3cokebottle Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 I passed my rigid HGV driving test on friday , got the bendy bit coming up in November, all paid for through the job!!Can't use it for hire and reward though have to do that CPC stuff. the police force paid for you to go through ya class2 ? didnt think they had trucks that big lucky git
FredTransit Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 That would be so if an HGV driver is arrested or taken ill, the officer can drive the wagon away. As for the Driver's CPC, I bet that will prune off a lot of occasional self employed drivers, specially those who work for agencies, as they will have to pay for the CPC, and take the time off. They may not be able to afford the time or money, or both. That may well have shot the government in the foot there.
Ken B Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 That would be so if an HGV driver is arrested or taken ill, the officer can drive the wagon away. nah that will be so he can drive those big horse boxes the mounted police use....change of department Daggle????
bigglesmk2 Posted September 13, 2009 Author Report Posted September 13, 2009 imo the cpc will be a good thing sita are paying for us to be put through the cpc as i would have thought all companys will do but what the small companys do or part time drivers get i dont know I think it will be a good thing too,i know im good at what i do and i dont mind brushing up on my skills . As a HGV driver who's paid for his licence out of his own pocket along with a digital tacho i dont think i should have to keep paying out of my own pocket to drive trucks. Oh and Bomer1,i used to work for Sita in Leicester
Daggle Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 That would be so if an HGV driver is arrested or taken ill, the officer can drive the wagon away. nah that will be so he can drive those big horse boxes the mounted police use....change of department Daggle???? Top answer wins!! Down here in Kent, we are trialing a new fixed penalty ticket, whereby foreign drivers are dealt with the same as UK drivers, if they can't pay a set fee then the vehicle gets clamped and immoblised, where as before foreign drivers got away with most minor offences as it was so time consuming to deal with them.
