sambo Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 I have spotted a very nice set of 9.5" x 13" superlite split rims for sale.... they would look the the round ones on my escort but the trouble is, i will have to lose the Porsche brake and disc set-up currently on my car Obviously the 13's will need smaller brakes and it'll cost me more to get worse brakes! Then i have to shorten the axle too. Shall i go for it? Or just leave it alone? Anyone got a nice pair of calipers they for sale that will fit under 13" wheels? Seeing that pic of the drifting mk1 escort on 13's really set the gears into motion!! http://www.oldskoolford.co.uk/phpBB2/vi ... p?t=105338
Admin Vista Posted October 5, 2009 Admin Report Posted October 5, 2009 leave it alone, spending money to get worse performance?
4parajon Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Obviously the 13's will need smaller brakes and it'll cost me more to get worse brakes! Hit the nail on the head there Sambo, stopping quickly is more important than looking good. Altho I can afford to say that being a handsome devil
sambo Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 MK1's just look RIGHT on 13's though! Maybe i can squeeze 15's on there but its still not the same! ARRGH! This dilema has been buggin me for ages! Maybe i should have a word with Image wheels..... then my bank!
Wessie Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 you can still get cracking brakes under 13inch wheels, its just there not cheap if you can get a mk11 escort on 13 inch rims to keep up with a group n spec impreza/evo on tarmac stages, then the brakes must be good AP Monte-carlos are the calipers you want i think phil and mick squires charge about £1600 for the complete set (discs, pads, brackets, bells, calipers etc) to put them on them front

I would really like a set of them though! I reckon i could get a few quid for my current front set-up though... The only other problem with having 13" wheels is my exhaust is quite a large diameter pipe and it will sit very low to the ground, whereas with my huge wheels, ground clearence is not a problem. Hmmm......
sambo Posted October 5, 2009 Author Report Posted October 5, 2009 Just had a thought, i could maybe use the rear calipers on the front and sell on the fronts?.... sounds like a plan!
Toby Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Imagine your handbrake turns! I think you car looks pretty dam good on it's current rims
livewire7116 Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Hi spec do a 280mm disc with 6 pots which fit under 13!
rsdaz Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 13s are definately the best looking size wheel on a mk1 but ground clearance can be quite bad.i dont really have any but it looks great so i dont care
sambo Posted October 6, 2009 Author Report Posted October 6, 2009 Yeah, after suffering on 13's and an ashley exhaust with my last escort, i can sympathise! It has to be done though....
