Hi, Someone has offered to swap my capri for a 1964 Zodiac, I don't know anything about them and was wondering if I could fit my spare 2.0 pinto into it or not, if not then I don't think I fancy it.

yes i have seen lots of pinto's in consul/zeph/zodie's over the years,

dont know how its done though but i'm sure there are a few people on

here that will  why did you want a pinto in it? is it just a

shell? they are lovely with the old six pot lump in them ok they are not

the fastest things on the road but hey ho :):)

I think I might leave that lump in then, I'll take a chance, I'll definitely want to be 'Quickening' it up some how, and pintos seem to be the easiest way.

keep the six pot in it and study up on the performance building of the six pot i saw a six pot with tripple carb set up on it at ford fair one year looked and sounded awsome later that year either cf or rf done a feature on it

I love the capri, but its too small, and the more i look at this zodiac the more I like it, I'm going to go for it, I thought the engine looked a bit small but I suppose it's just got loads of room around it, Triple Webers sounds very tempting too, goodbye poxy twin Webers! Cheers everyone, sorry to say goodbye to the capri owners, I'll be back when I can afford two cars! P.S would you say its a fair trade?

The Z cars are big old beasts to pull around with a Pinto. If you want a quick one ideally I'd say you want a lump with a bit more torque, a v6 or v8 maybe?

I don't know what can be done in the way of uprating the original straight 6. Perhaps Bomber1 can lend his experience as he and his Dad have a thing for Z cars.

Having a Zephyr meself i toyed with the idea of uprating the straight 6 lump and with the Raymond Mayes tuning stuff you could get, you do get okay results. but for the price of the heads etc, the availability and cracking/warping heads put an end to that...hens teeth spring to mind. The other option that ive seen is aftermarket Aquaplane equipment yet again rare as rockin horse doo doo!!

Depends what you want and if you want to keep it period perfect. I decided to drop a cologne v6 and 5 speed box in mine and now even thats changing as ive bought a Chrysler 5.2 v8 to put in now.

is there anything to put in it and keep the column shift? I'm not bothered about period perfect but I do like the interior and need the space in the front bench for numerous kids, so dont want a stick in the middle, I just want speed and ease of fitting.

tbh as been said the performance gear is good but oh so costley when it does turn up  the straight 6 is a good lump when running right. imo would give a modern luxury car a run for its money 8) i was going to put a 38dgas on a conversion plate on to mine till i blew it up  to keep the colum change you need to either keep the s6 or v6/v8 with an auto then conect the shifter to the colum. my one is going 2.5tdi manual out of a scorpio :? also www.galeforcezephyrs.com thats a n zealand based site but like this one there peps all over the world with lot of tech help  p.s need any thing just pm me as not on here a lot at the moment  if the zody is a good one it should just glide along pps we need pics 8)

if i was going to put something in id go for a 289 or 302 small blck ford, cheap power more performance bits, and if you drive it right you can get 20/25 to the gallon :)

Personally, I'd be all over the Zodi' like a rash. I love all the Zcars, so I wouldn't be thinking too hard.

Totally agree with keeping the bench, and it sounds like theres solutions out there for the auto box to column interface.

And you really don't want to be sticking a pinto in it, its doable but to what end? You'd be better off sticking a zetec in, and even then it'll make the wrong noise, no, the only real way forward is V6 (Capri/Scorpio Cosworth), I6 (Supra/Skyline/Holden/Ford US or even Jag in the shape of a 'charged XJR lump) or V8 (289/283/302/350/440 etc, or Lexus 4lt?)

So what Im saying is the world is your seafood
