Sorry mate 2.8 sounds tempting but as it's a daily driver I have to think about petrol & insurance, plus I love the colour & just need to make my mark. Iff I ever do decide to get rid, you're on the list!

no problems matey!like i said before this is a realy nice motor and a great colour!defo going down the road for a 2.0s! :D

good overhall condition matey!but engine not been run for a while!seems to be missing!to be honest i took it in on my sale of my rs1600i :thumbsup:

That's really quite nice. Do the usual checks, replace dizzy, leads etc etc, should be up & running in no time, Have you asked people on here?

cheers for the advice matey!just done an engine flush put new oil in and run some redex in the petrol!sounds a bit better but still a bit tappety :( took it down the road[naughty naughty] and is pulling well!may just need a good servicing and thrashing as its been of the road for minimum of 3-4 years!have put it on the swopshop page to see if any interested or where there is a 2.0s for sale :thumbsup:

Another little update.

 

Got a strut brace off a fellow Surrey capri Club member, fitted it at the weekend. Really firms up the chassis in hard cornering although standard wheels & tyres can't cope!

Another quick update. Some will have already seen these, but after waiting months for Midland Wheels to supply a set of anthracite 7x13 Superlites, and the discovery of an ever increasing bulge in my front tyre, I had to choose some new wheels & new tyres. After having starting issues, replacing 2 knackered wheel bearings & welding all carried out by the boys at Old Ford Autos (looking after me!) I chose a set of KN Allycat replicas, and they look the nuts. Toyo R610 tyres all round. These are only for the summer use, I've stashed the normal wheels away for the winter, and I'll get the bulging tyre replaced! Well chuffed. Have to lower it though as the pics prove, but will only go lower by an inch, usuable as a daily & will still look good.

Very nice m8 looks 8)8) , alley cats suit the capris methinks. :ykt::thumbsup: i have a set finished in gun metal grey all over without the polished rim as winter took care of them when they got stone chipped and blew the lacquer :(

Can't believe I haven't updated this thread for so long, so here goes.

 

Last 6 months since Jan have been pretty hectic, my financial situation has changed for the worse so I have been trying to get on top of that. The Capri took a battering over the winter being outside & is looking a little worse for wear, so need to get a few rust issues sorted. I was able to source a front wing (made by Hadrian) & pattern part front bumper off Ebay for a good price, so need to get this fitted & sprayed at some point:

The front bumper needed holes drilled for the overriders so I removed my original bumper to accurately measure the holes & drilled them out, overriders now fit perfectly:

I've also got some other bits to fit, door rubbers, rear bumper quarter etc:

The car had been running fine over the winter but problems were creeping in. I went to Wheels Day & on the dual carriageway the back end started whining badly. I struggled through the day but it was awful. After thinking it may be suspected gearbox gremlins (I had issues last year) I took it to Old Ford Autos who diagnosed it as worn axle bearings. As finances are tight I have had the bearings replaced but it still whines as the crown wheel teeth have worn down in the process. The cause may have been a leaking diff cover that Old Ford Autos discovered was a bodged repair on the diff cover, so I have had to buy a new cover & gasket off CCI.

So now I have it back, & it is as fun as ever, plus it passed the MOT with only a couple of advisories. Hoping to get some more stuff done this year

Been a bit quiet on progress to the Capper due to finances being tight for last year. Got out & about at many shows this year as co-chairman of the Surrey Capri Club & will be back on the show scene very soon, hopefully with more work on the car planned this year due to actually getting a job.

 

So, first update of 2012. Before Xmas the windscreen cracked whilst I was driving down a dual carriageway. A couple of stone chips had happened before but this created a 2 inch crack. Absolute bummer. Ordered a new screen from Old School Windscreens at Longcross, which got delivered today. Over the last 6 weeks the crack had increased to 4 and a half inches long:

Old School Windscreens fitted the screen, along with my replacement rubber trim from East Kent Trim. I also asked them to replace the door frame rubber which had broken as this is a job I've been meaning to do. They have a cafe, so sat there having a lovely full english waiting for them to do the job. They got most of the stickers off the old screen but sadly last years Ace sticker couldn't be salvaged

Very friendly people & great service, definitely recommended.

 

All in all, what with a drive round Surrey countryside on the way home, good day.

Another thing marked off my 2012 list of things to do. My mate & fellow club chairman came over to help me install my head unit & front speakers since he had done his & I had all the bits ready (or so I thought, more on that in a sec). I was using a set of Alpine ovals that replace the original front speakers alongside an old (but still usable) Sony head unit that came out of my P100 project.

 

We started taking apart the dash, along with the glovebox to gain access to the wires. I had a cut dash to accept the new unit Sorted the wiring out & tidied it up, there were a few bodges from the aftermarket stereo that had been fitted in there, plus a relay for an electric aerial. Not sure but since top end models had the electric aerials I can only imagine this was a Ford afterthought which they never wired up.

After getting the head unit from my garage & slotting it into place ready for the cut dash I suddenly realised that the ISO connector for it was missing. Searched the garage found nothing & we couldn't turn back as all the wiring had been setup differently. So a trip to Halfords to buy an Alpine head unit did the trick. Got back, Cut all the wires for the new connector & spliced it all together. Also got some speaker wires routed to the back ready for my 6x9s in a box another time. Getting the head unit in the cut dash was fine, but slotting it in the bulkhead area wasn't so easy. Bending back one of the original units mounting brackets did the trick & it slotted in fine. All the connections were tested on a multimeter, all loose connections were securely taped up to prevent shorting, quick test run, all fine, refitted the dash, glovebox etc

Despite the diversion to Halfords we still had an hour to setup the front speakers. Simple case of removing the doorcards, disconnecting & unbolting the original speakers then fitting the new ones. The only thing that needed to be done was to take the original plastic cover at the back of the speaker & cut it to shape the new speaker, as the mounting depth is about 1cm deeper.

New speakers bolted in place, just reconnect them (thank you Ford for having a universal connector) then refit the doorcard. Drivers side was done on the car as the mirror adjuster was not going to budge

A better sounding stereo all round! Job to do later on is to sort the rear 6x9 box & Dynamat sound proof behind the speakers.

 

It was raining for the best part of the afternoon but we cracked on & did it. It was a glorious day today & I would have gone out to sort my door weather strips but the Grand Prix highlights were on (damn you Sky!) & I'm hungover from last night, so it can wait.

Big update!

 

My car has been at Old Ford Autos recently. I had decided (due to personal reasons) that even men are allowed "retail therapy" and therefore decided I should treat the car to an upgrade. I will concentrate on bodywork and everything over this winter, however I thought I like the car but it needs to be lower, so I went & got these beauties:

Gaz front adjustable inserts & rear adjustable shocks. MOT was also due & Old Ford Autos had noticed my rear shock was leaking anyway, so my upgrade was definitely a good idea! I have lowered it an inch on uprated springs & -1" lowering blocks, along with polybushes where replacement was needed at the rear.

 

The boys at Old Ford Autos fitted this & sent me some build pics:

At some angles the car does look like it's squatting down at the rear compared to the front. Having had old front springs which were likely to be sagging, the new springs have not really changed the ride height, but the rear does look lower (see page 1 of this thread for comparison pics when I first bought the car). I know some people like to go -2" at the front to compensate but I'm happy with what it is now. Just have to spend time tweaking the setup to my preference.

Once all this work had been done (including replacement of front brake pads) one fresh years MOT & I'm ready to go again!

ive never gotten over how weedy and fragile everything looks ont he rear suspension with these and other rwd fords, i can just imagine them U bolts snapping over a big enough bump :sad:

Another update. Got a Sportex 3" exhaust & tubular manifold because the original system crumbled away. So removed the old system

That should have been the end of the story, job done, but as anybody who's fitted aftermarket exhausts knows, these things never quite fit right. The middle pipe was dragging along the ground & no matter what I did just wouldn't work. Anyway, other issues prevented me from working on the car. Then when I did think I got it right couldn't test drive as it didn't start! So one failed jump start & one replacement starter motor (thanks Calvin!) I was up & ready. Old Ford Autos have had it until today & sorted it, along with the bumpstop. They have also found a new problem... Turns out that the rear bearing keeps seeping oil out, but it was replaced recently, & removing the bearing is still tight, so they believe there is a hairline crack in the axle casing itself. It's not major, but replacing rear bearings is getting tedious & needs sorting.
