TBH I think I prefered the Flat front, I did wonder what evere hapened to the car,

Did it ever have a BDG???, I thought that stayed with the Mk1 and the Mk2 was built around the V6, I dont ever remember it with another engine, I can remember waiting with anticipation for the car to come out of the box, as we were racing WendyWools/KM in a Beven prepared Imp at the time, then came along Doc Embury and the stupidly fast Karmen Ghia, as well as Ginger Marshal in the Kitten, we then went and tried to play with the thunder Saloons with a VW varient fastback and a Big block chevy

Ian, it sounds like you yourself are one of the legends, some nice history and thank you for the insight into the story behind one of the hottest cars in the scene 8)

Ian i always thought the first few outings in the mk2 where BDG's ,

Apparently the roof is still in West Kingsdown... as for the rest, who knows. Its almost 20 years since he got stabbed and shot.. the curse of the Gold hey :(

The VW Fastback and the tightening engine .. shame, and bad luck that one Ian

You got any pics of those days .. I know lots have been posted on the Autosport Forums , but some of those old re-bodied F5000 would be of interest to the petrolheads on here.

The temptation of gold and having a shop in West Kingsdown, the epicenter of south Londons Villans retirement homes, other tham Maliga,

The shop when it was All car Equipe was great, but it lost somthing when it went to F1 Acessories. did his brother take the shop over?, Shame about Nick, I often used to pop down to there just for a chat, or found the corner into Jeff Howes to pick his wifes brains on carb set up, she was SO good

deffo was the best time for Saloon racing, and the cost was not astronomical. until you buy silly engines!!!!!

Gary try this link, you probably have it anyway,

One of my favorates, F5000 olds engine March tub mid mounted, looking very tired here, used to look the Nuts in the corbeau livery and the panels fitted, all under a Daf 66

the history after Nick ended like this ...

FORMULA ONE ACCESSORIES LIMITED

On 8 September 1997 in the High Court of Justice, Andrew Norman Whiting, and Patricia Rose Whiting both of Millfield Main Road, West Kingsdown, Kent were disqualified for periods of 8 years and 7 years respectively for their conduct as directors of Formula One Accessories Limited ("Formula").

Formula, whose principal trading address was Main Road, West Kingsdown, Kent was engaged in the business of retailing specialised motor accessories and spares. Formula traded for some 7 years and was voluntarily wound up on 6 December 1995, with a total deficiency of #370K, including trade and expense creditors of #173,980 and Crown creditors of #23,280.

Matters of unfit conduct found by the court in respect of Mr and Mrs Whiting were that they caused or permitted Formula to knowingly continue business for 11 months beyond a date when there was no reasonable prospect of all creditors being paid; misuse of it's bank account by bouncing 528 cheques over a 20 month period and incurring #14,520 in bank fees as a consequence; and finance Formula's business by the retention of #23,280 in revenues collected on behalf of the Crown;

In relation to the transfer of Formula's stock to a new company, Formula One Brands Hatch Ltd ("Brands Hatch"), of which Mr Whiting was the sole director, they failed to co-operate with the liquidator by not disclosing all of the assets transferred, and concealed an invoice recording their sale of assets to Brands Hatch; breached their fiduciary duty owed to Formula by failing to account for this transaction; sold the stock at undervalue; provided Brands Hatch with credit terms that were not in Formula's best interests; did not endeavour to ascertain the market value of the stock, or to canvass for other buyers; made a material omission from Formula's statement of affairs by not recording the sale to Brands Hatch;

In addition the court found unfit conduct by Mr Whiting alone in that he caused or permitted Brands Hatch to use a prohibited name contrary to S.216 of the Insolvency Act 1986; and deliberately misled the liquidator of Formula with the answers provided in his director's questionnaire.

whats in that supercharged anglebox?

I think it had 2 different engines, one being a supercharged 1500 pre Xflow, and im 99% sure it also had a 1800 MGB supercharged engine, I think I amd correct in saying the builder of that car, probably single handedly is the reason Santa Pod exists today, Sidney Allard, google the name and see what comes up, He was building V8 powered sports cars in the 50s, I think he was also the builder of the first rail [dragster] in this country, and in the early 60s brought over a team of American cars and drivers including DonGarlits, Don Prudohme, Micky Thompson, and others including Potty Potter who had a transverse Chevy v8 powered Bike, direct drive, with no clutch or gearbox, just used to rev the nuts off it, back wheel spinning and kick away the stand, total NUTTER, they came over 3 or 4 times in the 60s I even think the Stone Woods and Cook willys made an appearance, all under the team of the comandos, Bit of british dragracing folk lore here,

Ahh Baby Bertha, Bit of a Pheonex that one built with the help of Frank Costin from the remains of BIG BERTHA which, in my opinon was undoubtedly the best looking special saloon ever built, shame it was destroyed in a crash in its first season after a rear brake caliper "Felloff"

This is a great thread, the sidney allard anglia is amazing, I have that same pic framed on my garage wall!

Does anyone know if the rocky 2 mk2 zephyr belongs to the same o'connor that now owns als gasser? I have never seen it before, great looking car :thumbsup:

Jim.

Al Oconner has owned the gasser since the year dot, IIRC there is a member on this forum who has one of the original doors for Als Gasser screwed to his toilet door, I may be wrong but I would think Als Gasser would predate the Zephyr.
