m1c Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 i dont actually know why people use granadas for banger racing as theres sometimes capris etc that turn up cheap on occasions... what so special about a granada to use em for?
mk3cokebottle Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 there solid mate and run really well under heat , i have known a v6 granny run for a whole meeting without water in its gills easy to repair easy to pull out fast reliable solid as a rock rwd easy to chop n change engines etc easy to find easy to chop n change legs , struts etc and they bend in all the right places just a wicked all round race car
Mk 1 Mark Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 Mk1 and 2 Granadas Hard and Fast. . . And loved racing them...Tried a few Jags but they have alloy rear hubs that break...
bortaf Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 And lets not forget CHEAP no fooker can afford to run one on the road
Wessie Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 mk1 coupe , mk1 hearses, mk1 limo's, mk1 coupe limo's, mk1 saloons, mk1 estates. mk2 saloons, mk2 estates, mk2 hearses, mk2 limos - great to see them all being used out on track, stick a v6 in, loadsa welding and hold on !
LEONMEX Posted December 28, 2009 Report Posted December 28, 2009 mk2 goinarda, loved racin them. My mate has got a proper mint mk2 pre-facelift that he saved from me that i was going to race. Nice motors on the road or getting there back wheels put up over your head
caprinerd Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 all of the above jags are good just you need to know how to drive them as they are a handfull, as i found out, snapped steering first bend and used the amourco to get round at kingslynn till there was a track blockage that was the end of the jag, had it been a granada it would have gone back out
stevepeanut Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 I feel like crying when I hear of these old grannys going on the track. How can someone claim to love osfs and be a member of this site, and then turn round and trash old osfs on the track?
jamesg Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 some pikeys stole my mates mint MK3, that has probably found its way to banger track! dam pikeys
lee337 Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 some pikeys stole my mates mint MK3, that has probably found its way to banger track! dam pikeys i doubt it, mk3 granadas are just a big sierra and fold like a piece of paper. this is my old road car, pre facelift mk2 granny 2.3 v6 it looked nice and shiny from the outside but there were so many faults and bodges by previous owners it would have cost a fortune to put right. i advertised it on a few websites as breaking for spares but had very little interest so i had a bit of fun with it before it went to the scrap yard
jamesg Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 oops meant to say MK2, such a shame it was mint when it was nicked, hate to think what state its in now
over_head_cam Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 I say this quite often, but if no one is going to 'save' and old motor, it might as well go out with a BANG!
DAZZA Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 Point 1) Id rather someone was coming at 40mph toward me whilst I was sitting in a Granny than say............. a Maestro. Point 2) Granny's are still cheap, a friend of mine has recently acquired around 7 Mk2 saloons all for resto, all with T&T the most expensive was £700.
bortaf Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 I feel like crying when I hear of these old grannys going on the track. How can someone claim to love osfs and be a member of this site, and then turn round and trash old osfs on the track? The cars are there if you dont like it buy em and save em your self, simple. dont save em dont moan the choice is YOURS not the racers that and the fact i know dam well not 1 OSF owner that hates racing will ever say "oh ok give me less than the car is worth cos banger racing has bumped the price up and i wouldnt want to be seen making money off the back of such a crime"
stevepeanut Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 I wish I could afford to save the cars that get bangered. If they are too far gone to save I would prefer to see them parted out for spares than smashed on a track. I can understand cortinas and granadas being bangered in the 80s and early 90s when there were loads left. But these days there are so few left its such a shame to see people buying them to banger
JAY PS Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 As a Granada nut and yes im saine ,its a shame but as someones said they cost a bundle to keep on the road and running one everyday might be alright if you Chris Evans but the average man is a no ,what with 18mpg ! Ive saved loads from the banger boys and recently saved four of these one with only 35,000miles ! I do understand why there raced and ive even heard of racers buying them at £1k just to race because they know they can get a few meetings from one car if they are lucky And if its rare they will pay more ! Heres the ones that for now arent being raced as far as i know ! Heres some i know did get bangered My limos been dead a few years perfect banger material Sumos old Granny These ones never made the track !
stevepeanut Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 nice one Jay, good to see someone saving these rare cars
red-rum816 Posted December 29, 2009 Report Posted December 29, 2009 i have got a mk2 granada and i love it 2 bits, at the end of the day all the ones that are getting raced will only make our loved cars worth more money because their wont be that many left on the roads, but the down side 2 this is u will have 2 bolt your cars 2 the ground so that it dont get nicked,
Darran Posted December 30, 2009 Report Posted December 30, 2009 I've watched 1000s get raced over the years. At least they were not all just scrapped!! As been said very few people would run a granny because of the fuel. What else can you do with them ?

But these days there are so few left its such a shame to see people buying them to banger Ok yeh i see your point but where do you think all the cheap parts come from? 80% of racers i know sell parts on cheap, im allways in somones yard grabbing an A/C fan so a RS turdbo can keep its cool (same motor), or so a capri or cortina can rob some larger calipers, or for E/W, C/L, leccy mirrors to rebuild cortina ones, 2.8i front spoilers for cortina owners, the list goes on and on. Very very few racers are rich enough to not care and throw away parts, every month there somone on a forum somewhere offering parts cheap off a car they are gonna race and most of the time all they get is silence or abuse, rarely thanked for putting themselves out to help us "enthusiasts" Try making friends with some racers and open up a whole world of OSF breakers yards top play in, AND most of the time they are actually nice chaps a swell, double bonus eh

How can someone claim to love osfs and be a member of this site, and then turn round and trash old osfs on the track? most granadas are only good for scrap same as capris and cortinas they came out the showroom with rust in them, the real good ones are on the road and how do you think the spare parts keep going round . stick to what you know best and go polish your car

JAY PS Posted January 1, 2010 Report Posted January 1, 2010 Most Fords of that era had rust on them from new ,i remember Grays of Guildford put all the pre -reg cars in a rainsoaked field alongside the river and the A3 I has a new in 2001 van that had rust so things aint changed that much . We are into osf on here and it seems some people are very small minded . If you dont like a model dont slag it !Its someones pride and joy Sticks and stones
