Basically i've now realised the wheel sits to far in on the rwd fiesta, can i make new bottom arms approx 2" longer? then extend the rack arms, and move the strut top?

I know people use a capri X Member but does this bolt into the car in the same place or are the fixings further apart to?

you will have to check the camber before you go mad, People use the capri X ember,?? the Capri X member is about 2" wider than the Mk1-2 escort, but so are the top mounts to accomodate this.

If your camber is correct, is this not the right time to go for wider wheels?

Ok so thats a capri x member out the question, i've got an 8J wheel on the front and it still sits aprox 60mm in from the outside of the arch, i'm pretty sure the offset is 0 or pretty close to that. How do people get the wheels to sit out on say a bubble arched Mk1?

By fitting 10" wheels

The problem i have is the inside of the wheel also hits the shock, whats the maximum size spacer that is safe to use?

Sounds like you need to get new wider rims with the correct offset then? if you do a large spacer you will also need humongous studs to go with it (this is kind of reminding me what the guys on chopshop garage used to do, i personally dont like it)

I'm pretty sure the offset of the wheel im using as a guide is a 0 ofsett the wheels i want to use are 25 offset, if spaers were an option i'd get them made so they atatch to the standard studs with countersunk nuts, then have the new studs tapped into the spacer. I would guess the spacer would need to be aprox 60mm??

Also realisticaly what width rim can i run obn the front without making it handle poo?

You need the right offset, and as for how wide.. we have escorts running 10" ... 11" fronts and they handle.. depends who has done the geometry

In and ideal world you need to sort out lots of things..

to avoid kickback the KPI (SAI) needs to be correct, now your not going to do that with standard parts, also the castor has a big role in this when it comes to fitting wide wheels, with the wrong KPI and a lot of wheel hanging outside the point that the KPI hits the ground can cause a lot of steering kickback and wandering.

To avoid doing anything that will ruin the handling you need to replicate whats on a production car.. so if you use Escort parts, make all the pick-ups the same as an escorts.. x-member ..... top mounts in the same postion fore and aft, and also teh same distance from the centerline as on a standard escort.

If you use capri stuff, the top mounts need to be the same distance as the capris .. etc

To explain the effects fully would mean writing a book.. and theres allready books out there.

Ok, so let me get this right, if i'm using escort stuff on the front i need to get this as close to standard to start with ie struts the same width apart, std bottom arms to start with to get the camber std. Then from there im going to use 8x15 wheels with an ofset of 25. From that point how do i get the wheel to sit out further? is this purely done by the width and ofset of the wheel? Also does it cause a problem that i'm using a 2.8 capri Axle and escort front? do i need to have the same front and rear?

Ok right i'll do it from the start using the following;

Strut tops same distance apart as a mk3 capri (can anyone measure inside to inside of the thread of the shock)

Bottom arms same as Mk3 capri ( Again can anyone give me the measurement for centre of ball joint to centre other side.

Steering Rack same length as mk3 capri ( Again can anyone give the measurment end to end not inc track rod ends)

Once that is all in place in an ideal world what ofset wheels would i need?

Am heading in the right direction????
