Ok

Here is something that you might find on...

mythbusters.jpg

Old wives tale etc etc

Cola

Does it clean metal, remove rust, shine up that old penny etc

Well i think it works on a penny, so i thought i might try it on something else a bit bigger.

I had already tried soaking an old rusty nut in vinegar for a week to see if it would clean it up. It didn't work at all, not in the slightest. It was asda's finest 23p a bottle as far as i can remember.

So back to the Cola test.

Some Pics to explain.

Take one rusty flywheel

One rusty nut (previously tried to vinegar it)

The_Experiment_002.jpg

One plastic box

The_Experiment_003.jpg

Put the flywheel in the box, face down on the dowels to keep it off the bottom and allow the Cola to do it's trick.

The_Experiment_004.jpg

Some of Adli's finest Cola  39p each !

The_Experiment_005.jpg

Poured in 2 bottles = 4 litres

The_Experiment_006.jpg

Look at the fizz !

The_Experiment_007.jpg

The_Experiment_008.jpg

While i was watching the "fizz" i wondered if the Cola would clean off oil and general "gunge"

So i throw these chaps in.

The_Experiment_009.jpg

The_Experiment_010.jpg

I then left the thing alone for 48 hours...

Here it is after 48 hours. Fizz has long since stopped.

The_Experiment_011.jpg

Got rid of the Cola and was left with a box of shiney bits

The_Experiment_012.jpg

Well not really...

The_Experiment_013.jpg

The_Experiment_014.jpg

The_Experiment_015.jpg

The Cola did nothing at all...

So this myth as they would say on Mythbusters is......

This was part of a COSHH Course I did at work

COCA COLA: ASTONISHING FACTS !

•Its true, that in the USA, Police cars carry at least two gallons of Coke in the boot to

remove blood from the highway after a car accident

•You can put a T-Bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days

•To clean a toilet: Pour a can of coke into the toilet bowl and let the “real thing” sit for

one hour and then flush. The Citric Acid in coke remover stains from vitreous china.

•To remove rust spots from chrome car bumbers. Rub the bumper with a rumpled up

piece of aluminium foil dipper in coca cola

•To clean corrosion from car batterie terminals, pour a can of coca cola over the terminal

to bubble away the corrosion.

•To loosen a rusted bolt. Apply a cloth soaked in coca cola to the rusted bolt for several

minutes.

•To bake a moist ham. Empty a can of coca cola into the baking pan. Wrap the ham in

aluminium foil, and bake. 30 minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil,

allowing the drippings to mix with the coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

•To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into the load of greasy clothes,

add detergent and run through a regular cycle. The coca cola will loosen grease stains.

It will also clean road haze from your windscreen.

COCA COLA: SCARY FACTS

•The active ingredient in coke is phosphoric acid. It will dissolve a human nail in about

four days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor

to the increase in osteoporosis.

•To carry coca cola syrup (The Concentrate) the commercial trucks must use a

hazardous material place card reserved for highly corrosive materials

•The distributors of coke have been using it to clean engines of trucks for about 20

years.

Now the Question you should ask yourself is: Would you like a glass of Water or CocaCola ??

I dont drink any Fizzy drinks Just dont like them except a drop of dry ginger in my JD
