stevepeanut Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 So happy it was just two silly thing After a complete build I thought the was going to be a shed loads to do lol Just has to be dyno'd insured and tax Then the little bits I'm not happy with on the video where you were driving it up the street a couple of weeks ago, was it not insured? thats mad on a car worth 30k, if some idiot had drove into you, that could have been bad shit
fostersice Posted April 24, 2010 Author Report Posted April 24, 2010 It was driven on a dead end road mate so no probs lol Plus built it once can always do it again just faster and better lol Plus had to set up everyhing Inc brakes before mot
stevepeanut Posted April 24, 2010 Report Posted April 24, 2010 well for a big build, a plate and a bulb not working is a good result, 2 tiny things to sort, I'd be happy with that, good to see it done and finished
fostersice Posted April 25, 2010 Author Report Posted April 25, 2010 i am very happy just have to insure and tax the have it dyno'd go get her running right then its just the little bits
over_head_cam Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 Insurance seems very reasonable m8. Glad it was only a couple of sillys too for the MOT. I's been a mega-build so it will be nice to see you out at the shows and meets this year
bortaf Posted April 25, 2010 Report Posted April 25, 2010 How did you get it to the MOT with no insurance not a csae of rebuilding it more a case of having it impounded and crushed i'd be worrying about £400 is bloody good i recon IF you've declared all the mods ? but then i spose it depends on how old you are ? I pay £98 fully comp on a Mk3 cortina but i'm an old fart

4parajon Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Your insurance is about right mate, mines £450 for £40k
kevmk2 Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 Well done for getting it on the road I reckon that these agreed value insurance policys wouldnt pay out if push come to shove. They say they will insure a car for £30 or £40k, but i bet they wouldnt pay if it got stolen or written off
corsair66 Posted April 26, 2010 Report Posted April 26, 2010 No my mate had a nice Pinto powered 2 door Mk1 Cortina written off on agreed value of £5,000 insurance would only give £3000 no amount of Solicitors on the case made any difference. Went on for ages but never got anywhere. Now he has a new toy, the Supercharged ST170 powered ratty Cortina that was in Classic Ford back around Christmas. Paul

Paul That's interesting (aka a concern) what reason was given for refusing to honour the agreed value? The premium charged is linked to the amount of the agreed value surely?
FredTransit Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 When did you loose the plate? I hope it was on the way to the test. as for the fuse, if you had them on you, wouldn't they pass it? I nearly failed on no dipped beam, it was loose fuse and so they let it go. I knew all the lights were working before I went. What I didn't know is the vac pump decided to eat it's O ring resulting in a bad oil leak. Again fine when I left.....

bashbymk2 Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 I have been working in the insurance trade now for around 7 years and you are correct in saying that they wont pay the full figure. With cars like this an assessor will be very picky and try and find every little thing they can to not pay. Yes some assessors can be very professional and will give you the benefit of the doubt however it is very rare. When you insure your car it is at and agreed value and this would be the most amount that would be paid however 99% of the time depreciation will be taken into account/condition. (i know that sounds rediculous as your insuring a classic) You will be more likely to get the full asking price if the car was totally original or concours as the assessor will compare the car to its original details. I work in insurance because the money is good and the work will always be there (everyone needs insurance) But trust me its a naughty game and very few insurers will pay the full asking price.
Admin Vista Posted April 28, 2010 Admin Report Posted April 28, 2010 So what you're saying is paying an elevated premium for an agreed value policy is just another scam by insurers to extort more money out of the customer and then not honour their obligations come claim time. SCUMBAGS!
SmokeEm Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 I had an agreed value of 12k on my old E30 M3 and when some dozy doris pulled out on me and wrote it off I had to settle (After a 6 month battle) on 6.5k!! They wouldn't even let me have the car back That was 9 yrs ago & I've never recovered from the financial loss
Admin Vista Posted April 28, 2010 Admin Report Posted April 28, 2010 Man, that blows. What reason were you given for them only paying out just over 50% of the cover they agreed to provide?
l j shaw Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 I have my quote from the Russian bear, he can do my RS2 for what i think is very reasonable price, i do have a multi-car polilcy with him now and will be adding my cars as i need. My RS2 is highly modified and running 10 x 13 etc etc and a few years ago i had been quoted £500 for a 500 mile limited usage on this car, he was alot under that. Has to be worth a try
fostersice Posted April 28, 2010 Author Report Posted April 28, 2010 This is why I have sent a list of every part fitted and a DVD with every bill and pictures of every part Inc every pic from the build and as I'm sure most of u have seen the build at some point there is a lot of picture that's only half that have been taken, I know I will not got the full amount but it's only £393 with no noclaims for a 400bhp monster If I was to insure it full comp as just a rs2000 with 400bhp engine and no noclaims they would give me a price way more then that and I would still have my arse raped on the pay out lol
BIGKEV Posted April 28, 2010 Report Posted April 28, 2010 I dont like Insurance and it winds me up just talking about it. The profits these companies make is scandalous. and If I ever see the man from the go compare advert I will Knock him out, shove him in my boot, take him somewhere abandoned, tie him to a chair, and make him watch his stupid adverts over and over and over again till he loses his mind.
