minim4rt Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Hi all. Im trying to decide what tires to go for on my mk1. I will be runing 7" RS 4 spokes. I will be using the car for road and trackdays. Should i run 175s or 185s? Also was thinking of yokys AO48R are these good or any other recomendations? Thanks vry much.
MightySprocket Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 185's won't fit unless you have bubbles, and 175s are a bit skitty, look good but don't work too well

In September 06 we tested 13" tyres back to back in Retro Ford... I think you will struggle with clearance on anything other than 175's...

jamesmk1 Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 i am a tyre fitter and can get about 20 makes in 185 / 60 /13 i think the cheap one's i put on my fiesta were about £20 each. as for the kumho's there are bad in the wet even on a 1.1 fiesta. if you go 175 / 50 / 13 get a539 's
Fiesta Steve Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 I have 175/60 a539's on my 1300 Sport and they are very good in wet & dry. I have 175/50 a048r on the XR2 and they are even better in the dry but worse in the wet.
minim4rt Posted January 9, 2007 Author Report Posted January 9, 2007 Iv got 539s on my mini thay are wicked but dont look cool enuf. I no that doesnt mean anything its what thay do thats the main point. Iv got a set of slicks which are the dogs but for most track days you nood road leagle tyres.
BaileyMex Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 and 175s are a bit skitty, look good but don't work too well I have 175/50's and there a little bumpy but seem to handle ok
groomers Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 i am a tyre fitter and can get about 20 makes in 185 / 60 /13 i think the cheap one's i put on my fiesta were about £20 each. as for the kumho's there are bad in the wet even on a 1.1 fiesta. if you go 175 / 50 / 13 get a539 's just got some new rears - again! paid £30 each for a539's i used to pay about £10 for cheepies for my fezza. a539's are the way to go ive always run them on the rs and they stick like shite to a blanket. worries most people that a 30 year old car can chase all the jap crap in the twisties!
J_mk1 Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Will 185's fit an escy (mk1) running 13 x 6's then?
