beu_79 Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Had this through an email: "The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about £200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was £28 for a rural florist and £194 for a delivery driver. A non working Mum who used her car to take the kids to school paid £86 in one month. On top of this massive increase in tax you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill. If you care about our freedom and stopping the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible." http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/traveltax Whatever happened to free motoring where 'big brother' isn't watching the whole time, and there's no way i'm sticking a 200 note box in the beast for the privilege.
Dom Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 What happens if you take your car to a trackday or maybe up the pod? They gonna try and fine you for speeding on a race track? These people should just Naff off

ZetecVan 2.0 Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 I for one will never ever have one of these in my car! Great Britain land of the free! pah, yea right not anymore! I'd rather rot in jail than be spied upon everywhere I go! fookin pr*cks! Cookie, that's exactly what I thought when I read that. This isn't a free country. It's a fascist state where you get taxed for everything, and spied on at every opportunity so you can get fined for the slightest little thing.
Daggle Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Don't agree with it, but it would stop car thefts if you can track the car.... just a thought
Jimbob-Squarepants © Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 I have signed it too, but there is something about that site I don't like. I never turned up in the list after I signed, and every time I refresh the page, on average, 500 more people have signed! I will try that again in the early hours of the morning to see if it is still doing it, but they do say that the site is under a Beta testing program at the mo. This means it isn't fully sorted and there will be problems with it. I would say that if you set up a web site for a certain thing, especially when it comes to people entering in personal details like e-mail addresses, names, addresses etc, not to mention the real importance for the site to be there in the first place, I would like to see that all the testing has been completed prior to the site going live. Either way, if they do decide that everyone is to buy and fit one of these boxes, the best thing we can ALL do, is simply refuse. Lets stand up for ourselves like we did in the late 1980's when Thatcher brought out Poll Tax. Unfortunatley, there are too many people in this country that will quite willingly lie down and take any old sh*t that our SO CALLED government want to throw at us. Yeah, they may try and sugar coat it and hide behind legal bullsh*t, but at the end of the day, they simply cannot force us to do anything, just as long as EVERYONE stands together and blatently say NO. There has to come a point in time where the government have to realise, WE/US as voters tell them what to do, not the other way round. Also if they continue to treat us as a country as a dictatorship, their plans will simply not be tollerated! Once again, target the f**king motorist just because their are so many. They will do as we say, look what we have got away with, road tax increases once a year, spiraling amounts of duty on fuel, the congestion charge, and they still cough up. Yes, that is what out government are saying, we are being treated like ar*eholes here, and the vast majority don't seem to mind. So, IF/WHEN these plans come into force, lets take a f**king stand and just plainly refuse. What can they do? seriously???? We own our cars, they are our own property, they simply cannot force us to fit these boxes. Oh yeah, while I am "on one", do you know in a few years, the congestion charge will apply to all roads within the M25. Camera's are already being put in place with more to follow. These are not "ideas", this will be reality very soon! DOWN WITH LIVINGSTONE, DOWN WITH LABOUR & DOWN WITH HUMAN RIGHTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Doc Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Politically it would be almost impossible to do due to the public backlash ... Its on record that any goverment trying to push through such an act would lose power at the next election and we all know how they love their jobs.
Mr Sam Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 its allways been my ambition to drive down downing street with a tractor and a muck spreader.............unfortunatly theyve made this a little more difficult with the railings at either end what about people who live up in the glens in scotland and remote ares of wales that need to use thier cars to get to civilisation for food what about students with no money how on earth do they think thier going to pull this off they waste so much time and public money doing stupid things like this all makes you so proud to be british ......sorry is that politically correct
ZetecVan 2.0 Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Don't agree with it, but it would stop car thefts if you can track the car.... just a thought No it wouldn't. They would only be able to track the car to a quiet area where the thieves would rip the tracking device out, but all that would be done before the owner even knew his car was missing.
X-pack-Glyn Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Wouldnt it be funny to rip the box off and stick it on a helecopter.... if the forced me to fit one id remove it, plain and simple.
