In this months (excellent) Classic Ford Mag, there is a piece which tells you about the value of OSF's ... all the various models ... values for Poor, Good, Excellent condition cars.

 

Now ... what did really surpirse me is that the Mk2 RS2000 is valued at quite a bit more than the Mk2 Mex and the Mk2 Harrier ... I would have thought that they would all be about the same value :?

Is there? I must have missed that, I'll go and look again.

 

I've seen debates on here before over which is worth more out of the mk2 Mex and the RS2000. I'd always assumed the RS2000 but others point out that as the Mex was sold in much lower numbers it attracts more rarity value (a valid point). The Harrier (whilst nice) isn't something I personally would pay much of an extra premium for over any other two door mk2.

i like them all but the mk2 mex is a much rarer car than the rs2

 

Doesn't necessarily mean it's worth more though. For instance, even if I was offered the last remaining 2CV, Beetle or Allegro on the planet, I don't think I'd buy one at any price.

Allegro, you know its screeming to be turned round and driven backwards, just for the fun factor :lol::lol::lol:

 

As for values printed in magazines, it just confirms how out of touch they are. Just wish someone would say "Get real" to them. Having done a Photo-shoot for a mag, and you know how its going to go when the first thing they ask "is it forsale"....and ....well it goes downhill from there

I made just that point in writing to the editors of about four different classic car mags that publish regular monthly price guides (not including CF) about 5 years ago.

 

I got a standard blurb answer from three of them (we research our guides on the open market blah blah, stand by our assessments blah blah :roll: ) the fourth however wrote back stating that I'd made some valid points (I said that insurance companies use their valuations to beat down the values of our cars come claim time and that perspective buyers think they're being overcharged when they view cars advertised at real world prices and compare them to magazine price guides). That magazine did in fact go on to do their homework as the next edition saw a sharp rise in the value of some CF's. Can't remember which of the four magazines it was though :oops:

We can always wait till one of them project cars they do comes up forsale, see what they put as an asking price :lol::lol: do they put a market price or a price they print :lol::lol::lol:

i dont see how there can be a price guide on these oldies as every one is different now with all the work been done over the years & people will pay whatever price if they really want it. our cars are as individual as us really. :thumbsup: but what do i know :mrgreen:

The RS2000 has been valued higher than the Mexico probably as it cost more new and to many people the RS2000 Custom is the one to own as its the top of the range. But the Mexico is rarer so that should keep its prices up. I havent seen the guide as I don't buy Classic Ford but I would say there shouldn't be a massive difference between the two.

 

The Harrier would be worth alot less as its not an RS car, its a special edition based on a mainstream model with added trim, wheels and stripes, the special edition Escorts have however always been valued higher than the model they are based on.

i would rather pay good money for a base model with massive spec than a standard rs2000/ mexico ect.

some people want far to much money for standard rs2000s, mexicos just because of the name.

Have been considering my yearly subscription to classic ford now for some time.Price guide is 'way out of touch' with latest prices its unreal!.....is the beano still on the go?.might have a bit of that for my money.... :sad:

what happens if insurance company's value escorts at the price guide or use classic ford mag as a research source just like they use ebay etc etc

 

what happens when jo bloggs who has been researching buying an osf looks in this very reputable mag to find that all the cars he has been to veiw are over priced because the magazine says so

 

Are classic ford going to do a bit of proper research and value a mk1 fest pig at £100-300 if its in bad condition rather than £50 ??? i gave around that for one not so long ago off a driveway that was never going to see the road again for parts then scrapped the rest after it had all the left over good bits removed :roll:

 

i know it sounds silly but i make a fair bit of money out of buying osf's then selling them at what people are willing to pay for them which to be fair is usually a fair bit on top of what i have paid ......... its part of my living so are classic ford going to take a kick in the balls when people start asking them for money because there losing money through car sales when people have judged what a car is worth off there price guide ???
