not just here people are pissed ....

http://bbs.rallyesportescorts.co.uk/sho ... hp?t=49747

There's some angry people on that site isn't there! So the mag didn't research their facts properly? Hardly crime of the century and neither does it set a precedent as every classic car mag that prints price guides has been at it for years and not just with Fords.

Get over it boys, I'm sure they'll update it and correct their error!

I don't recall any excess coverage in CF of cosworth powered motors doing wheel spins, burn outs and donuts. I'd have stopped reading it long ago if that were the case (much like I did their competitor for the same reason). I think CF has a pretty good mix of standard and modified cars and also cut a good balance of technical and motorsport features.

i have just sold mine and there valuation is way off the King mark of what i got for it.the buying selling part is not the shite bit about it imo.its the insurance companies etc that get the quotes etc from these King things for payouts etc.always get an agreed valuation on your classic car is the only way to make sure your getting fair payouts if the worse happens

its not the fact of correcting an error mate the error has been made already bet theres a copy of that at the insurance company's now on there desk for research

i agree with cf being a good mag thats why i buy it but just think that something like this mistake shouldnt be made

Not trying to throw a spanner in the works but I think its all overpriced,

everything, buying them , the parts

The 30 year old rule has meant that a once affordable hobby is now a cut-throat market with the skint people struggling to keep up.

I believe that one organisation is responsible for unreasonable price increases but I cant say as peace must be kept

Glad you understand and read the mag ;)

As I've said above YES the figures are wrong, we know this and it was printed in error. It will be resolved.

I'll bet money that this has NO knock on effect what so ever to anyone or any insurance company though, insurance companies are a lot nicer than they used to be.

Just recently I met someone who had their mint Escort RS2000 insured with a company for £20k as long as they were sent pics. He sent the pics and was told BY the insurance compnay that in their opinion he was under valuing the car and it was worth more.

Another friend of mine wrote off his car last month. They offered him £6500, he replied it was worth more and sent them adverts of similar cars priced higher. They gave him £9000 a week later.

Really, please share the name of this insurance company and i will be banging on their door for next years policy.

My Insurance valuation  is shy to a sum of £3000, YES THREE THOUSAND POUNDS for the agreed value of my car. It all relies on YOU GUYS getting the base value correct. However Simon W is going to try and help my cause (good man  )

This topic is popping up all over the internet by the way

Yes and we've addressed it on every forum we've seen it on.

Those stories were from two different insurance companies. I've heard other stories and experienced similar myself from other companies again.

Sorry to hear about your own insurance, but I seriously doubt any insurance company uses a magazine price guide to construct their pay out prices. They would look at the market and what other cars like that are going for.

Guidelines are for buyers/sellers not insurance companies and again I doubt a buyer is now planning on paying now more than £X for a car.

Someone reversed into my own car the insurance company used Practical Classics magazine for there value of my car, it is the only price guide that includes specifically the 1300 Sport.

Originally they tried offering me £200 as 'its just an old Fiesta' which the mag valued at £1550.

If the price guide was wrong I could have shit out ! So this does matter, but I'm not going to cry about it

So what companies was it then, send via pm if you don't want to post here.

If you seriously doubt that the insurance companies don't look to you and other car mags for guidance then you are sadly mistaken ! Thats what the insurance company told me on the phone when i asked her how they came to the value for my car.

So please please please make sure that the values really do reflect current prices.

Oh and i know this will be real easy to do for escorts since they are widely available in almost any configuration, pinto/xlfow/cossie power etc for example.

You try getting an proper evaluation on a modified Anglia Estate... esp one that as extremely rare parts fitted. There are only about 100 left, not many are modified so they have nothing really to go on.

In which case I do apologise!

The insurance companies I've known them be a lot nicer about valuations are HIC, Co-op and Heritage Ford Insurance.

I've known of companies try and under value cars but sending them adverts of better priced cars has always seemed to work. I appreciate this is much harder on cars that are a lot rarer!

The guide will return with updated prices at a later date.

Sorry, I had not meant for this to turn into a slanging match :oops: and I look forward to seeing an updated valuation guide in the mag asap

CheeRS for being honest on here guys and promising to put it right

Right then, my few quids worth!!

Classic Ford Magazine have apologised, the masses of Pitch Forks are now redundant and the Witch Finder General has snuffed it...

Need not worry my fellow Old Skool Ford Brethren, an insurer worth its salt in knowledge and experience of specialist vehicles such as ours wouldnt need to use a magazines guide anyway!! They were only trying to help us, the enthusiast and i look forward to seeing the revised edition as an enthusiast, in the future!!

Im sorry to see people have had bad experiences with some insurance companies...this doesnt do much for the insurance industry and the already boring and mundane subject to 95% of the motoring population any good at all!!

Remaining impartial, my advice would be to shop around for the right policy not necessarily the cheapest option.

When you ring around, ring around specialist insurance companies that know your car, work on recommendations from mates and enthusiasts in the same circles.

And get an agreed value with the company thats quoted you, from the outset!! Yes, even before you've paid, Saves any arguments later down the line...if they know your car this shouldnt be a problem!!

To put it bluntly, Classic Ford Magazine cannot be held responsible for a rubbish policy!!

Remember the Cheapest is not always the best, you get what you pay for in this world...
