im doing a zetec conversion on a capri, after getting a 2.8 shell with type 9 box ive been told that there are two type 9's about. the pinto one and the one in the 3.0 essex with the input shaft is longer and is no good for the conversion. (which is also in some 2.8's)

how do i know which one ive got?

if i do have the wrong one what can i do

There was never a T9 fitted to the Essex engine as standard, only the 2.8i

To tell the two apart externally, the input shaft is longer on the 2.8i box than it is on the pinto one. This doesn't help much when you don't have the two types side by side to compare though and I don't know off hand what the measurements of the two are.
