mk1rob Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Just ordered a full exhaust system from this company. Spoke to a doris first off that was no help what so ever when i was trying to get advice on which size to get. I thought fair enough and ordered one anyway - a 2 1/4" system for a mk1 RS2000. When i got round to fitting it i found the manifold hit the brake servo so wouldnt fit. I rang them and spoke to the same doris who said it was my car that was at fault even though i explained its a standard engine bay. She eventually just hung up (un-professional!) I rang the next day and spoke to a guy (possibly manager) who basically just wanted to argue rather than sort the issue. He said i cant have a refund, only a credit note and quote "your lucky your getting that!" He wouldn't even refund the postage cost for sending it back! Warning to anyone that orders anything from there: Make sure the part you order, you know 100% will fit (which is hard with these old fords) because if it doesnt, you'll get crap customer service and no refund! I wont be using them anymore and will recommend to anyone not to either!
NeilT Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 thats just teribel sevice!!!! deffo put me off going there!
scootlife Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Hi Rob I ordered my replacement exhaust from them. I went for the sportex one with manifold. I must have been lucky as it arrived the next day and they undercharged me !! Fitted perfectly too. I am surprised, but its a real shame when somewhere well established acts like that. Ive put that janspeed system on ebay, but that offers still there if you want it. Im only about 5mins from IKEA , but auction ends in 8 days so will need to know so i can cancel auction if its of any use to you. cheers Rob
gearbox100 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Thats not good at all .You must speak as you find and a few years ago i went to the shop and bought alot of stuff for a mini , enyway when i got home and unwraped the quickrack i had bought it was a metro not mini so i phoned the shop and thay said they would sort it.THe next day there was aknock at the door and peter lloyd himself had bought the new rack to me . I live over 100 miles from the shop so i thought that was good customer service . Not good for his rep if this is how they now treet customers .
livewire7116 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 The 3 piece manifolds wont fit without modifying the servo tower, they normally recommend that you use a wcxm as well however i have fitted a 3 piecer with a servo tower and all i had to do was bend in the side of the tower to clear but i was running a wc, problem is nowadays all these parts we buy are NON std and nearly always need fettling to fit properly, only tonight i dropped in my new engine but found that the back plate to the air filter hits the bulkhead but hey ho its one of those things, you would expect with a £5k motor it be fine but ford never fitted a fuel injected XE in a mk2 with chassis mounts
andyc Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 The 3 piece will not fit with out chopping the servo, most people fit a bias box so dont have this problem. I have never had any problems with PL at all. They are always happy to help. The bloke you spoke to would of been Peter himself as there are only two people who work there. You must of caught him on a bad day. How long ago did you buy the maanifold (you didnt say)
mk1rob Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 Only bought it a couple of weeks ago. Yeah i understand some people dont have servos so it wouldnt be a problem but i was never told that when i ordered it or i wouldnt have ordered it. I think i wouldnt be half as pi**ed off if he hadn't been such an bung hole on the phone Scootlife: Thanks for the offer! Ive chopped the old manifold about now so sits closer to underside of car. Hope you get what you want for it on ebay
sambo Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Hi mate, i have had similar issues with Peter Lloyd. Got into a bit of a barny with him and yes, he can be very unprofessional. It doesnt surprise me that the phone was hung up on you. If you look on his website about returns, it clearly states that returns are accepted. Legally he wont have a leg to stand on. I'm with you mate, you should have been informed that the manifold wont fit with a servo tower, you should have been given that information when ordering. I managed to resolve my issue with them and Peter turned out to be alright in the end (probably because i promised to buy a brake kit if he sorted the problem out).
Baz. Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Ive had bad dealings with them over some wheels, they sent me some rubbish from another company which did not match wot i had, when i rang them i get a stroppy doris called Claire, who also blamed me and hung up, eventually after many phone calls i got hold of peter who said he would change them if i sent them back!! i had to pay for a courier for a problem that was not mine to take them back, Claire is is one of the rudest persons i have ever had the missfortune to deal with, and i will never recomend or use that company again, and i told them!!
mk1rob Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 Cheers for the comments. Glad to know its not just me. Shame it has to be anyone though!
mk1estate Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 When OSF first anounced tha peter llyod was to be our sponsor i posted my opinion on the service he offered and was good as told to keep my views to myself, well i hate to say it but TOLD YOU SO lol. seriously though there is no doubting he knows his stuff and he prob has the best stock available as well as having keen prices, BUT he has no customer care at all, if he does show any kind of care to you then youve been one of the very few and should consider yourself lucky. Bottom line is......would i use him again....well yes i have done a few times because like i said they have a great stock and prices but be warned if things dont fit or go wrong cos you WILL get the phone slammed down on you. Well thats my opinion on peter lloyd
mrcheese Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 I've had exactly the same thing from peter lloyd, I bought the wrong brake discs ( my fault ) and found that I had my own spares that would fit, so I returned the discs still unopened and asked for a refund and was told I could only have a credit note In return. The consumers rights act 1979 states a customer Is entitled to a full refund for the price of the goods for whatever reason It has been returned provided Its returned In the same condition, and within a certain time after purchase. I said this to Peter and he replied " you know more than me, maybe you should try running a business" to which I replied " well actually I do". The exchange became heated, untill I threatened small claims court action. I shortly after received a refund for the goods. I also had the same thing from a jewellers where I bought my wifes engagement ring, we returned It a few days after purchase as we found It was faulty and decided to get a refund and go elsewhere. We were told It was the shops policy to only give a credit note etc etc, I told them the consumer rights and mentioned small claims court and hey presto got a refund. The moral of this story Is so called shop policies don't mean shit. The law of the land and the consumer rights act Is the same for ANY business and they have to abide by them, so please anyone who reads this post and has trouble with any busines In this way, read up on your rights! P.S I have never dealt with PLR since as there are plenty of other suppliers who deserve the business. rant over
RETRO_AL Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 Under the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (as amended), anything you buy from a trader must be: As described Satisfactory quality and Fit for purpose Under this Act, even if your guarantee has ended, you can still complain for up to six years from the date of purchase. You are also protected by the Distance Selling Regulations if you buy something over the internet, by mail order or catalogue, digital television, phone or fax. These say that: You have a cooling-off period of seven working days after agreeing to buy, during which you can cancel and The seller must give you information before you buy, including a clear description, contact details, cost and payment, delivery arrangements and cancellation rights. This should also be included in a written confirmation of your order. There are some exclusions, such as perishable goods (flowers, fresh food etc) and newspapers and magazines.
livewire7116 Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 just an observation at this point and by no means trying to blame anyone or pass blame or protect anyone, the sale of goods act as in "fit for purpose" in a way he isnt at fault as the good he sells are for modified and competition cars which you is why you by them cos std parts are not upto the job and "will fit" if you have the combination of parts in place prior. Surely you cant expect him or his staff to know of every possible combination of parts which thousands of people have all done different to suit our own tastes and driving style. Yes they should at least say to you that it "MAY NOT" fit a std car without some tweaking, as for the doris with attitude i would take a drive up there and shove the phone up her ass regardless of the 300 mile round trip!!
D-FENS Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 It would be good if someone from Peter Lloyd Rallying replied to this post, especialy if they are still site sponsors.
mrcheese Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 My point is that you are within your rights legally to return goods ( with the exception of foods etc) and get a refund, as long as its in the same conditon and is within a certain time frame of purchase, it doesn't even need to be broken or wrong, and you don't even need to give a reason for returning it.
mk1rob Posted May 15, 2011 Author Report Posted May 15, 2011 This is interesting. Thanks for comments Livewire7116: Its a fair point that they are a rally shop and sell competition parts. Guessing most rally cars don't have the servo so wouldn't be an issue. Just wish they'd said it wouldnt fit my car when i told them it was standard. Ive got a mate who wants to buy the manifold off me now so not all is lost. I think even if i did manage to get a refund from Peter Lloyd, id still have to pay postage again to send it back. Plus its not worth the hassle and arguements imo I definitely wont be using them again though! Thanks again for comments!
RETRO_AL Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 At the end of the day they should let you return the item is called good customer service, they have just lost your future custom so its there loss
MikeyG Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 I've also had complete and utter rubish service from them. The inital order was incomplete so when I rand them it was as above. I bizzarly ended up in an argument wether I had received them or not? His wife ended the debate after I asked to speak to Peter himself by putting the phone down. Seveal calls later and still nothing but 'what do you want' and even 'don't ring here again!' Never got it sorted out. Never went back, it's Burton's all the way for me. Completely useless in customer service.
Andy44Boz Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 I use Rally Design all the time now, they still seem personal enough to care about all their customers no matter how small the order. Never yet had any probs and although cheaper on many things, the quality of their own products is bang on.If they read this,do we get loyalty discount? lol
ccm Posted May 17, 2011 Report Posted May 17, 2011 similar experience to mine some years ago with a capri 2.0 exhaust that would never of fitted a capri in a million years they dont give a fook once they's got ya money so i wouldnt piss on them if they were on fire- which i hope one day...
