If you have a 1300, stick a 1600 head on for instant big valves. Standard 1600 heads or even mildly ported ones can be bought for just a couple of quid of off ebay etc..

emu Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 im thinking about electric fan but cant really afford one Get down the scrappy and have a look around antz, your bound to be able to find summat to fit between the grill and radiator. peugeot 205 springs to mind for starters If you use the thermostat housing from a mk1 fiesta then it has a fan switch built into it. It needs to be a mk1 one though as the hose comes off at the right angle. Another idea........1600 head on a 1300 block.

105Speed Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 The other thing to do would be to pay for an hour or two on the rolling road, especially after fitting Junk-Yard parts.. Its amazing what running the correct ignition advance and the right carb jets can do for performance.. That would be my £100 tip !

Stu_B Posted January 23, 2007 Report Posted January 23, 2007 I have a 1600 xflow in my cortina, and although it runs ok it needs a good rebuild as all the oil seal are all knackered, same with the timing etc etc! I realise it goes against the point of the thread but I'm just gonna save my money and drop in a decent 2l pinto and do the bike carb conversion!!

mk14dr Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 I've spent... £50 on a 1600gt complete engine in bits, £200ish for the block, crank and head to be checked over and a rebore to +60 from +30, £144 -- 1300gt +60 pistons and rings, £50 on 1600 escort sump and pickup, £150 bfc2 full cam kit, all i need now is gaskets, shells, carb rebuild kit and to throw it all together
