So .... you have a std X-Flow ..... what cheap or easy mods would you recommend for those of us who are a little financially challenged? Mods that would make a difference and not just look good.

Discuss ..... :D

Air filter change , Splitfire plugs ,

electronic ignition and an electric fan (get rid of the one on the engine )

If handy id fiddle with the head to let it breath better and fita performance exhaust.

Maybe Classic Ford will do something on it, I mean there are no other mags out there worth reading are there???

Change the cam and head work plus exhaust, think Fiesta Steve(man of great xflow knowledge)said the biggest power gains are from a xflow is head work :D

I don't think headwork is an economy class job though, especially if you don't know enough about porting and flowing to do it yourself.

Oh and throw it away and fit a pinto for some real grunt

Ok, sorry... Er budget mods to a crossflow...

Other than that it's all down to what the "budget" actually is...

Get the dremmel out and ruin that cylinder head

or

NOS... but i've heard that's cheating!

How much you got to spend Jo ?

That would be a better starting point really..

If you say only had £100 what would you spend it on

If you have £200 etc etc

Well, it's really to try and give some of our members an idea of what can be achieved on a smaller budget as most of us are limited to what we can spend but want to do some mods that are cost effective :D

Perhaps some suggestions on what you could get for your money .... ie .. for £100 you could do this, for £250 you could do this, for £500 you could do this etc :D

keep xflow standard and save up for a different engine with the money you would have spent.

thats my plan neway :-P

sure is, never understood how removing it is better for hp though its not likr it weighs anything

It's all to do with the fact that the engine has to turn it... And when it's spinning at 6000rpm it moves some air, which by its very nature is creating quite a resistance... You can actually gain a couple of HP swapping to electric... Bin the Alternator for a few more too!

Posted

By reducing the drag on crank you will get a free'er revving engine so bin the plastic propeller in favour of an electric fan, bin the fuel pump in favour of an electric one.

Fit a lighter flywheel from the smaller engine.

Say on a pre-crossflow, rather than lighten a 1500 flywheel, just fit an Anglia one, job done.

Also fit a lower ratio diff like a 4:1 or a 4:4... this will give the illusion the car is faster because its soo much quicker off the mark.
