Jiffer Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 when I put the zetec in my mk2 I went for the budget option of bike carbs, now I think its down on power a bit so I'm looking to fit either 45s or TBs, webers seem the easy route with me being able to stick with most of what I've got, where as TBs are a fair bit more involved and the cost is a lot more, is it worth me going for the webers or saving and going for the TBs at a later date, is there much between Tbs and set up 45s on an st170?
Admin Vista Posted September 8, 2011 Admin Report Posted September 8, 2011 Peak figures achievable will be much the same but the throttle bodies will be much more drivable across the rev range and will probably give better performance lower down and mid range. I just considering going over to TB's from the 45's I currently have on the car.
V8ian Posted September 8, 2011 Report Posted September 8, 2011 if you are running 45, and dont need to go bigger to 48s, probably get away with 42s on tbs, as you dont have the carb venturi in the way, and will give you better response
sambo Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 Injection over carbs are simply night and day. Everything is much smoother. No popping or farting at low revs etc. Is it worth the cost..... depends on the state of tune really mate. If its a standard engine, i would go ditch the bike carbs and go for a pair of webers.
w p e Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 webers all day and if there set up correctly to much electricle bull s**t with TBs to go wrong
sambo Posted September 9, 2011 Report Posted September 9, 2011 lol, yep, i agree with Wayne on that! Like i say, they are only worth the expense on a highly tuned engine where your trying to get everything out of it. When management works.... it fooking great, but when things go wrong.... what a pain in the arse!!
rallyesport04 Posted September 10, 2011 Report Posted September 10, 2011 i was looking into t/b's vs dcoes i looked on a site that rolling roaded a car on 45's then fitted t/b's the results were peak power bhp showed t/b's produced more peak power low to mid the webers produced better figures than the t/b's but t/b's made a smoother power curve than webers for the cost involved of t/b's i kept to webers also if your broke down on the side of the road your got more chance of getting webers to go than t/b's
Rich Sav Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 After going from 45's to 42tb's on my crossflow i presonally think its not worth the money or hassle. I have more peak power had a smother power curve but when running up the strip i just dont seem to be making the same times. My best on 45's was 13.2 now on 42tb's its 13.5 The cost just isnt worth it in my eyes You need new fuel pump, regulator, filters, swirlpot and if you dont already have them braded hoses
rsdaz Posted September 11, 2011 Report Posted September 11, 2011 I'v been thinking about throttle bodies for my next project, does anyone know what the fuel economy is like compared to a pair of 45 DCOE'S ?

You could also try a review of retro Ford mag when they covered testing of these and the benefits/pros and cons for more tech data. Unfortunately I don't know what issue tho.
