over_head_cam Posted May 10, 2012 Report Posted May 10, 2012 I'm one of those who grew up with an outside toilet and Tesco blue-stripe dinner. I voted Tory too. I voted for the party that let people do well for themselves and not the party that would have us all on the same level (except themselves of course). I am also worried about immigration and how it affects our economy, but I am aware that our country, throughout the ages, has relied on foreign input to create a nation that succeeds worldwide. But to agree with someone else's views because I am friends with someone? What a ridiculous statement. What I do appreciate though is a well reasoned argument that's intelligently worded.

over_head_cam Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 Very well written response. Your insight into political discussion far exceeds mine so I shall concede.
Admin Mk2Jo Posted May 14, 2012 Admin Report Posted May 14, 2012 I think the current situation is down to Labour overspending and I did vote them in last time. This time I voted Lib Dems or whatever they are called at the moment and is was purely on their policies during the general election campaign . I have always voted based on the information given at the time and the areas that affected me - education, health, housing, jobs etc .... I don't understand deficits and indexes and stuff like that but I do believe that the last labour government did overspend on some things which has meant that we have to suffer this time round as the Tories cut back on stuff. . Now, what I do see (in my politically un-educated view of life) is lots of Polish and East Europeans over here taking the jobs that my English friends really need .... I am not racist and I think the Eastern Europeans work hard (we employ lots where I work and they will always get on and do the job without moaning - unlike some of the English workers) but at the moment my 17 year old son cannot get a job for love nor money (and believe me he is trying) and so this is what guides my opinion today as it affects me, today. . I don't know what the answer is and if my area had been subject to local elections at the beginning of this month I have no idea who I would have voted for because I am not happy with any of them particularly. . I just want my son to be able to get a job. I want a decent education for my other son. I want my family and friends to have access to good medical treatment and I want to feel safe inside and outside my home. I don't care about getting a huge loan for a 52" plasma or driving a big flash car. I just want simple basic stuff for a happy, comfortable life . Oh, and I don't think slagging off other people on here because of their opinions or background is particularly constructive and saying things like "you must be someones friend because you agree with everything they say" is a bit odd . We all have the right to speak and say what we believe (whether other people agree or not)which is still the one thing we are allowed to do for free in this country and for that we should be thankful in itself
jas Posted May 14, 2012 Report Posted May 14, 2012 as im english i say this all everyone ever does is talk about it blame this person or this person there all crap and in it for there selfs dont matter who u vote for it end the same way,we suffer.i was told by my grandad when i was a kid the biggest thieves of all time are the politicians, free masons and the police,em seems about right to me.
Admin Vista Posted May 14, 2012 Admin Report Posted May 14, 2012 Yawn There goes a man who knows he's backed into a corner and can present no further reasoned argument. Though, with hindsight, did he ever present a reasoned argument?

Mr2Caps Posted May 27, 2012 Report Posted May 27, 2012 I'm not sure most of this is a debate if I'm honest, however, generally we have our own interests at heart nice home, decent job, money in our pocket to spend on things we enjoy, when this goes wrong we look for people to blame. Politicians are an easy target, however the fact is labour screwed it up, and they knew it, let's not forget the note left in the treasury when the coalition took power to the effect of "there's nothing left-good luck". As a country we were living well beyond our means, and a lot of people knew it and chose to ignore it, or made money out of it. That's the way of the world, it isn't going to change. Which leaves us where? We need a leader, Cameron, Milliband, Clegg are not good enough. We need a Churchillian type to take charge and we need a sense of community to all pull together, is this going to happen? Unlikely. A divided and fearful populace is easier to govern.
