that john123 bloke should be purple the amount of money he has around him :beer:

There are quite few members that used to be purple a while back, must be all skint now

i was one who was purple a while back but stopped the membership money because administrators removed one of my posts about stolen cortinas because other people were giving me abuse and not liking what i was saying, should be free speech (as long as you are not verbally abusing another member);over the 12 months every time i replied to posts a lot of members got shirty because they realized i am an x banger driver i have helped a lot of people with information on repairing cars and helped 4 people restore old fords but still got no respect from a lot of people on here , so for me to pay again the attitude of some people would have to change after all most of us on here share the same interest but a few do gooders are spoiling it. rant not aimed at you just replying to your comment.

I love banger racing, get yourself purple lol :ykt:

I did not know just how much it costs to keep this site going if i did i would have just given posse the £20 and said keep the change come on people, it is nothing to pay £12 to keep the site going or like mk2jo said we will just be a group of friends meeting in our local car park without this site, look at how succsessful wingspan was people came from far and wide to it cos of this site.

I've been reading this thread and it makes me happy to see just how much you guys appreciate Oldskoolford. Darren and all us admin love the site/community and without meaning to sound cheesy, you lot too

Now we all know it costs plenty to keep the forum running and we are gratefull for every penny it receives in subscriptions but we will always be a place where you can come - for free- and enjoy all the banter and feature of the site. Having said that, there are benefits to being purple which can often save you more than the yearly cost of subscription!

We all know money is tight right now so we appreciate tour support even more

I go on a lot of Car/Motorbike sites and post,

if I gave to all of them I would be even more skint than I am now .

So in the interest of fairness, I don't subscribe to any of them, but I and a

lot of other people like me, post on most of them which at least keep the

sites interesting.

So don't put us whites down, we don't need any more bad feeling as was

said in another recent thread for people staying away and not posting.

Just my honest opinion .

And a valid one.

We appreciate all contributions but nobody should feel, or be made to feel, obliged to make them. Plus, technical input in the relevant forums from those that are more able to provide it is just as worthy a contribution to members as the financial contributions that some members make.

Agreed and well said.

Its commendable that members in "purple" want others to contribute, but by keep bumping a thread and coming up with schemes to get people in "white" to pay up will only encourage them to go elsewhere!

Personally I dont like the "purple" idea as it creates an elitism amongst members which makes others feel unwelcome or or not part of things! If you want to contribute then thats great, but why do you need you name all lit up saying "look at me im a fully paid up member"

Im not just saying this because im in "white", if you read the "Retards Club" thread then you will know that I own & run a large VW forum which I pay for out of my own pocket, so I know what exactly costs and commitments are involved!

The only reason that I am not in white is that my Escort is buried at the back of my workshop and takes very little (nil infact) of my time, so the OSF thing is not a priority for me at the moment, when it does I will do my bit.

Also I have been working around OSF's since 1980 and served my apprenticeship with Ford, so I probably have just as much to give as I get from this forum, so im not here just on the take!

Its none of my business, but my opinion is that there are more passive ways to go about funding this forum, than going around with a begging tray (this thread).

If any of my comments piss anyone off then that proves my point about why people can and will go elsewhere!

I'd like to reiterate what Scott said, noone should feel obliged or pressured into becoming a purple person. That is not, and has never been our aim. I'm sure the sensible among us will take peoples comments and respond (or not) in a way that they themselves feel comfortable with.

As I said before, this is a free community where people can, if they want, contribute to help with the financial side of things. Tech advice and general banter is always classed as a 'contribution' in my eyes too. So whether you're a lurker, a high poster, a purpler or indeed a newcomer, all are welcome.

As a side note, many people who have paid their subscriptions seem to be proud that they are purple and want it known, so to me it's a way to let people know that they have helped.
