I joined osf in february and turned purple about a month ago.

The reason was not down to feeling pressured ,obligated or having my name in lights to feel elitist ,it was because the information that is available from posts of others and help from people when i've posted is valuable to me for my car. I could have not contributed and still got that information , and i do not have a problem with anyone who wishes to do so. My thought in contributing was simply that to keep a site of this magnitude going costs a small fortune because of server size needed etc.

If this site were no longer where would i get my help,information from ? i know their are other sites but this one is purely osf and the people are dedicated osf. How much would it cost me in phone calls to ring round dealers etc for help ? A lot more than twelve pounds a year i'm sure.

 

For the people in red : Would deleating old posts that have not been read for a long time ,say over a year or two (ie; having a clean up) be an idea for keeping costs down,making the server usage smaller ? , Just a thought or am i talking crap again !!.

Thank you for your input sir As you say we thought £12 per year or a pound a month would be do-able for most people, when i was a contributor i was on benefits and even i could afford to send a cheque off to the site ( don't have paypal )Darren (posse ) is on the phone to the IT back up people if there is a problem + it's sorted straight away !! yes you can get cheaper servers but they don't give 24/7 back up. Lots of people on here come on the site just to sell stuff and they never give anything back to the site, we were talking of charging different rates for advertising stuff, the purples were going to get the ads for free but this has not happened as a few people said they would leave the site over this.We did even try the first dibs ads on the for the purple people only but it didn't take off, being purple does NOT mean that you are ELITE or BETTER than anyone else on the site but we feel if you are prepared to pay some of your hard earned money to the site at least you can have your name stand out a bit. on other sites when you contribute to them lots of them lock up quite a few rooms to only be seen if you pay. We don't do this we only have the contributors room and discount on show tickets. ALL us admin are mad for oldskoolfords so we like to try to make the site full of the stuff ALL love.

That was the old system and in the transition to the new it hasn't always carried over. Do you know when your subscription payment would have gone out?

I think the subscription's like a donation. You give to someone in the street collecting, and they give you a little sticker. Being purple isnt elitest, just showing you support it, and although its not a charity, imo OSF is a damn good cause
