please excuse me airing my turbulent thoughts here :? it's been rattling around inside my head for a while so i thought i'd get it off my chest and see what you lot think, i'm sure lots of you have been in this position anyway

i had wanted a mk1 escort since i was at school (which was a long time ago now) and i have mostly loved owning mine and i feel bad even considering it but recently i have been having dark thoughts about selling it

at the wingspan show the other week

am i deluding myself in thinking that if i sell the escort i'll get enough to buy another decent, but cheaper, OSF (around the £2000 mark i guess) that i'll still enjoy but i'll have enough left over to have made it worth doing (and clear my overdraft etc)

more likely i'd either spend the leftover money on the car i just got  or i'd just fritter it away  and see nothing out of it and regret it forever (i can't see me ever affording another 2 door mk1)

if i had a different OSF say an estate, van or a hatchback i could probably have that as my only car, that would save a fair bit of cash and i could sell my other "sensible" car and run it as a daily. tax exempt would be nice too

maybe i'm making too much of it and i should just carry on as i am, i'm really skint but thew situation isn't desperate yet

anyway, this feels like revealing a big secret (even if in reality no-one but me cares)

Stuart,

Man up! There must be something else less important in your life that you could sell first? You will only regret it!!!!

I have saved up for a few year now for my dream and each time i reached the 5K mark something in my life needed money spending on it. I have since purchased a mk1 bubble arched 1969 that need rebuilding and the missus would go first believe me! I just spent almost £1200 this week on nice new stuff for it and trying to get hold of an engine set up from a guy on OSF that i desparately need....

 Dont do it

I sold my last mk1 scort because we needed a new boiler  it took me forever to get back into another OSF, but needs must.

If you sell an escort it should surely make enough to get another model AND reduce the debts a bit  there's a lot of cheaper but just as nice fords out there :ykt:

hard decision really but to ease that up i have a neat ford corsair thats perfect for daily use all metalwork done more than good for daily driving ... and down the road from you ...

Be a shame to sell it Stuart, looks a nice car and once sold buying another will be hard.

Having said all that it's got to the stage where they are fetching so much that people are happy to risk everything to steal them, which in turn makes us not want to use everyday anymore !!!

I had the van for sale for the same reasons, thought when it was on the road i'd just use it but in reality i was on edge leaving it thinking it might not be there when i get back !!!!

Luckily it didnt reach reserve and has been put away for another day for now, but with work up & down and money tight it may be back on there at some point.

Theres a couple of decent Estates around at present, the vans seem to be nearly as expensive as the 2 doors cos they are rare to find though.

Only you can make the choice good luck

Actually cut me teeth on Sieras in my youth, they were ok and you can pick em up at good price, still rear wheel fun mind.... Unless you opt for a XR 4X4? Again still fun and with an LPG conversion if you are really ar$ed about cost can be tuned to suit....

go with your heart i sold mine and still miss the bitch but change is good . Look at it like a bird when you first meet them you have great fun and bum and sex then it slows down so you get a new model or is that just not normal?:beer::beer::beer:

sierras are great, i had an estate not too long ago which i (well mostly the wife) very much regrets selling and that was just a lowly 1.8 cvh

Think its worth more than 2k ,Dont hang onto anything you dont want

lifes to short ,Perhaps Trade it on another osf ?

yeah suppose i could trade someone elses OSF plus their money for it

I guess it depends what you get enjoyment from, personally I like driving a classic daily, so I like it to look a bit crap. I don't want to worry about it being scratched or stolen, and I would be paranoid if I owned a car that looked as good as your escort. I love seeing cars that are that nice but I wouldn't dare own one. But I imagine that a lot of other folks would get absolutely no pleasure from the kind of sheds I drive

Don't sell stu, the whole reason you sold me the estate was 'cos you wanted to keep the 'scort :(

recently sold both of mine for reasons beyond my control, one has been striped for parts and not sure about the other. belive me its like loosing a fookin arm. got a new one now but starting from scratch again is bloody hard.

 Sold for Parts? Did you know that it was being stripped when you sold it? I would have lost the plot. If needs were that much i would have rather took pleasure in breaking it myself and selling on..... Kind of a bit freaky disecting it bit by bit, with a rye grin... And a glint in my eye!!!

I hope i keep mine for my little man cub! He is one at end of Oct???
