Col-ashtonmobile Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 What memories do you have of cars owned by people you knew , parents , friends parents , etc , I remember my dad had a 1600e cortina and i always wanted the armrest in the rear seats down and my dad wanted it up , my mates dad had a stunning green mk2 zodiac with a bench seat and we all used to cram in the front, and my other mates dad had a bedford dormabile with sliding doors and he used to say his dads was the best cos he could drive around with the door open
BaileyMex Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 When I was a kid, my family always had Vauxhalls, my grandad had a an Old Chevette from memory
w p e Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 my whole family had all types of fords from 105e's up to zephyr's mostly modified except my grandads mk1 cortina he left it standard then he gave it to my mum then the fun began . so i spose it;s in the blood more's the pity
Admin Vista Posted December 1, 2012 Admin Report Posted December 1, 2012 All Cortinas for me as a young lad. My father did have an early Viva but I was too young to remember that, he had two non fault accidents in it and decided Vauxhalls were jinxed! After that it was 3 mk3 Cortinas followed by a mk4 then a mk5. I think they were all basic models, i.e. 1600Ls, but he loved them and was stuck on Fords till the Sierra replaced the Cortina. He did try an Orion a few years later but nothing recaptured the feeling he had for the Cortinas.
over_head_cam Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 When I was a baby, my uncle had a 105e estate. He used to drive mearound so I'd go to sleep apparently. I don't remember, but maybe it put old fords in my blood My first proper memory was when my uncle Mick took me and my dad to Ally Pally for the Custom Car Show in the mid 70's. I remember the smell of petrol and black vinyl seats, that has always stuck wirh me.
turnover Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 Remember my old man buying and sd1 rover when it was 3 mths old demonstrater in 1977 and thought the dash was something out of this world, and when he took me in it showing over 120 on the clock I thought it was the fastest thing on the road,
banarama Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 my what family i used to have ,allways ford me old man had transits, and escorts along with cortinas
PaulMags Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 My mother had a mk1 cortina and one day i took it out for a joy ride and ended up being chased by the police untill i wrapped it up around a lampost
banarama Posted December 1, 2012 Report Posted December 1, 2012 My mother had a mk1 cortina and one day i took it out for a joy ride and ended up being chased by the police untill i wrapped it up around a lampost you have to
PaulMags Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 That was back in 1975 i was fifteen at the time so been into fords a long time
Savvi Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 My Dad had 2 brand new mk1 escort vans for his delivery rounds for the milk marketing board one 1971 and another 1974, I remember going out with him in them some day's I would have been about 4 or 5 I guess, then my grandad had a singer gazelle and 2 new mk3 cortina's for his shop and taxi business, remember being out in the snow with him one year driving around gunnislake Cornwall where it's rather hilly and getting stuck !!! My dad bought a 1958 minor 1000 in 1970 and I still have the car now waiting for some restoration work.
LUKE261 Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 My dad had mk2 grannys then sierras wen i was young but he had a love for old fords, he bought me a 100e when i was 7 which i used to drive round the field in, he then had a mk1 cortina red with gold stripe, and had a 1300xl mk1 escort after that, so old fords were in my blood i bought my 105e just before he passed away so at least he knew i had inherrited the old ford bug from him
fieldy1972 Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 My mum has a photo (somewhere) of me and my brother when we about 4 or 5 years old, and we were both siting in an old Bugatti single seater race car. Which a bloke down the road owned. My old neighbour as a kid owned a gullwing merc. And I remember my dad owned a mk1 escort camper. Which he drove up to my uncles in Cirencester with me and my brother in the back. I'm surprised we made it up from Brighton as the smell of petrol in the back was overwhelming. there was also a large amount of Vespas and lambrettas round one of my uncles as a lot of my cousins owned them. I do recall wondering why there was sooooo many mirrors on them.
SmokeEm Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 I suppose my 1st memories were of my Dads Mk3 Zephyr 6 with the bench seat & column change. Was about 6 shades of blue but he loved it. I also remember in about 77, my mates dad bought a brand new Rover SD1 3.5 - It had ELECTRIC windows!!!!! My Grandad was a sales rep for Wrigleys and had a brand new Avenger every year. My favourite memories however were my Dads MK4 Cortina 2.0 GHIA auto (In metallic blue with BVR) and most of all was his Audi 100 S Coupe in Maroon - A very rare car then, let alone today!
DAZZA Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 In the mid 80s, the old man dropped a recon lump in 2dr Mk2 Escort Auto. The customer couldn't pay him so they did a deal and he gave it to mum. Even then, the 'older' boys would knock on the door asking if we would sell it! I bought lowering blocks and springs off a next dour neighbour hoping mum wouldn't notice, but Dad did and I got a major bollocking. Mum bought a brand new car on the early 90s, I passed my test and the Escort got modified albeit very late 80s early 90s stylee!
PaulMags Posted December 3, 2012 Report Posted December 3, 2012 my dad has a vauhall estate cant remember the model but its very rare and still like new.I'm sure the year of it is 1962 might be older.
Mr.Sumo Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 My earliest memories car wise are my Mums Anglia ( Navy Blue ) .then she bought a Corsair 2000e in metallic green with Dunlop wheel trims ( the ones that look like Zephyr trims ?? ).... My Dad always had company cars , 1st was a mk3 Tina ( N reg ) , then iirc , it went Allegro , Marina , Princess, Ital , Orion then the last one was a S.i.e.r.r.a.......hr now drives a c220 Kompressor Think World of Sport with Dickie Davies is to blame for my FORD love , Rallycross/Rallying on a Saturday afternoon.....
oxb1l Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 Apparently when I was about 3 my uncle had a really nice 105e which my dad was servicing When they had finished and gone in for a cup of tea they heard a banging in the garden ,alas my first go at panel beating and a very pi55ed off uncle My dad had a nice 2dr cortina he painted black My other uncle had a 2 tone purple/white Granada ghia coupe that sounded awesome I got leathered for peeling the fake chrome on the plastic interior trim off ,can't remember which car but I do mind my dad going MENTAL Bill
Mr2Caps Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 The first car I rode in was a Classic, which my dad had been to see Westlake about improving following a conversation with Stirling Moss in a pub! Don't remember much about it as I was only months old at the time! We also had a Black Hillman Avenger 1500 which had the inner wings repaired using several Victoria Biscuit tins and under seal before we sold it on..... Following that we had Vauxhall Cavalier MK1's until I persuaded him to buy a MK2 2.0 Capri Ghia which was followed by a MK3 3.0, then a Mk3 Escort Van and a MK2 Granada saloon, the last car he drove was a 2.7 Rover Stirling coupe. I'm not entirely sure he had much to do with my taste in cars, I think it might have been the other way around once I was old enough to exert an influence! (Although the Rover Coupe was his idea!)
The Transplanter Posted December 6, 2012 Report Posted December 6, 2012 My ole dad use to say "you cant go wrong with a Ford son" The oldest memory I have was his MK2 Consul. Later in years he told me it was rotten as a pair back then he had a succession of Fords after that, gradually getting newer! I also have two older Sisters, one of their boyfriends was the sales manager for HW Perry in Harrow so I got to ride in all the newest stuff in the 70s My other sisters BF had a genuine RS3100 which was the fastest car I have ever been in as a kid No wonder that when I left school I ended up as an apprentice in the local Ford dealership
