frankthefencer Posted January 12, 2013 Report Posted January 12, 2013 I have a 2.1 pinto in my mk1 escort . Is it possible to fit twin 48 IDF's downdraughts??? I have heard that they may not fit because they hit the bonnet. Has anyone fitted these to a mk1? Thanks.
shaun1.6ghia Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 I have seen some on a pinto before but think it was in a Capri an still not sure if they had much if any room. Sell em to the vw boys an get some side draughts or lift your bonnet at the rear using spacers (if only a small gap needed) for something different. best to check what manifolds you can get an the height of the carbs an the space you have between head an bonnet. My mk2 wouldn't have enough space, maybe with a xflow u would tho :-/ An you can't run a strut brace with them either :-/
James HPE Motorsport Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 Frank, I'm pretty sure they would go on with shorter trumpets. I will ask my gramps. They will deffo fit a MK2!!!
welshmike Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 hole in the bonnet, big shiney trumpets sticking through
shaun1.6ghia Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 Frank, I'm pretty sure they would go on with shorter trumpets. I will ask my gramps. They will deffo fit a MK2!!! That'll be the pinto I saw then must be tight to the bonnet!?? Get em in frank!!!!!
James HPE Motorsport Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 The edge of the front trumpet is about 1/2inch off the bonnet x-brace but no restriction. I'm pretty sure it will be a tighter fit on the MK1. Frank, I might be having the engine out of mine soon for a fresh lick of paint, maybe you can offer them up!!!
Admin Vista Posted January 14, 2013 Admin Report Posted January 14, 2013 I'm sure I[ve seen a mk1 RS with IDF's on it before and have a vague recollection that it was possible to specify downdraughts as an upgrade from new. Also came across this youtube video of a mk1 RS2000 with 44 IDFs 5CMB-AZTZoI
Tom E Cropp Posted January 14, 2013 Report Posted January 14, 2013 Do it Frank...downdraughts on a mk1 cool as fook
frankthefencer Posted January 15, 2013 Author Report Posted January 15, 2013 Thanks guys. I am off to America in march and they are cheap out there so I want to bring some back with me. I am hoping with short trumpets they will fit !!!
Muppetboy Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 Here you go Group one loveliness Defiantly fit, don't know if you'll need the RS2000 bonnet modification.
popeye Posted January 23, 2013 Report Posted January 23, 2013 go on.. be different, mk1 in the vid looks a great . oh... and it's BLUE
frankthefencer Posted January 23, 2013 Author Report Posted January 23, 2013 Thanks guys. Wanted to do it got sure but didn't want to pay out got carbs and they going fit. They will look cool on my car with the upgrades and will tidy the engine bay up.
Muppetboy Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 New manifolds can be expensive and the airbox is like unicorn $hit rare. I'd imagine you'll run trumpets anyway so shouldn't be an issue.
frankthefencer Posted January 24, 2013 Author Report Posted January 24, 2013 I wouldn't run an air box just short trumpets. I have a manifold sorted. It should look quite cool!!
Muppetboy Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 It's the way I'm going with mine. I'm looking to replicate the car I pictured with the air box.
frankthefencer Posted January 24, 2013 Author Report Posted January 24, 2013 Nice. I didn't know they did Grp 1 parts for the mk1 rs. I knew that the mk2 rs2000 you could buy them with x pack. Of course correct me if I am wrong !!!
nik_plant Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 Did Andy Harris not run idf on his escort at some point?? I'm sure I've seen a picture someone, Go for it they look über cool I've been looking at these myself
James HPE Motorsport Posted January 24, 2013 Report Posted January 24, 2013 Yes Nik, he did, but his IDF's are now on my Mk2!!! He did have to cut a hole in the bonnet though, but it was a saggy fibreglass one and it used to suck down onto the trumpets! I'm sure they will fit with shorter trumpets!
