oldskool to me is gettin amongst the modern day traffic and knowing your in sumthing totaly different, people pay more attention to a proper oldskool ford than a later one,its just the way it is  no offence meant, just my opinion. Mk2 escorts are my choice purely cos i had them 20 odd years ago,ive had loads of later fords but wouldnt regard them as oldskool even if i had one now :D thats all.....

Plastic, Jelly mould and wrong wheel drive. No thanks. No offence to those who like them, but to me its "horses for courses". Why try and muscle into a club where you know you will be frowned upon by the majority. Go join a club who cater for that car.

I had a conversation yesterday with an I.T. guy at work and he said "you've got a mk2 haven't you"? and I said Yes. Then he said "I love the old skool stuff .... I used to have an old skool rs1600i ". My point is that lots of people (particularly those in their 20's and 30's) do see those cars as typically old skool. This forum has always been about particular cars and I suppose the newer jelly mould round edged cars just don't look old skool in our view. :?

I actually wrote a big response to this a few days ago when it first came up, then accidently deleted it before I posted it, so left it as I was pissed off I wasted 5 mins! ha ha

So here it goes again,

I think this is bad idea. For so many reasons, I mean why do you want to be part of a club that doesn't cater for you car? Probably because this place is great, and the stands at shows that OSF have are great, why, because of all the mk1 and 2 escorts, capri's. 100e's, 105e's, cortina's etc etc and that the fact that they don't have a load of old tat on them. Why water the site down? Also people who have bearly posted on here 5 times and come on and say let them in, doesn't mean to say they are going to suddenly use this place on the regular, whereas it seems the majority of regular posters, admin and people who are purple are against it. When I tell people about this place, one of the main plus points I tell them about is the fact there are no mk3 escorts, jelly moulds etc etc on here, that's what makes this place unique. I think its great that people are instantly told when posting that they are welcome, but we don't cater for there car, it's not rude, it's just to the point. It's nothing against the cars or people, I don't mind some models of each car, but there are enough other places for them on the internet.

People say we need to move with the times etc, but the whole point is we don't, hence why we own and are obsessed with car's that are over 30 years old and most people have forgotten about.

If we need to try and get more people posting etc, can't we aim focus on other old models that arn't hardly ever featured on here, classic american fords like mustangs etc, pre war UK fords and all the hot rod scene cars like E494A Anglia and 103E Popular, surely that would be more appropriate.

Either way this is a great place and I think it would be a real shame to change it and basically water it down!

Also the idea of local sections of OSF that I think Ross suggested is a cracking idea.

Oh and for the record i'm not an old miser who hates all cars made in the last 30 years, i'm in my late 20's, so you don't have to allow these cars in to get younger people involved either, tom and ross are also great examples of that :)

I agree 100% with all of this, and im only a youngun at 21 aswell. Also to me, Old Skool Fords have to be RWD. This is a great site and still will be weather theres 80s cars on here or not.

Guess what would sum it up for me would be that I enjoy the Classic Ford show, but find that Ford Fair is too plastic and blingy, I like the site as it is

that has made my mind up i was on the fence with this but i love classic ford, ford fair is ok but not nowhere near as good too much body kits

i also own some plastic of my own but to talk about that i go to passion f... i cannot see many people wanting to chat about a 1999 car

Even though I do like 80s stuff, keep the site as is. I do like mk2 Fiestas (just sold one recently), early Orions and mk3 Escorts, and it would be nice to see a few decent ones, but the change would bring a lot of chavved up crap with it.

If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Tall Paul started up our local Essex meet for osf.... ,)

It's been great so far and even in the dark wet nights last few months there's been quite a few cars turn up it's still early days however... come next summer it should do really well......

So why aren't there anymore of these area meets going on?

What alot of people were thinking but no one put it. Well said.

There is always a lot of emotion when choices like this are debated, no-one is right and no-one is wrong. But when the majority speaks then that is he democratic answer. All posts are thus individual personal feelings. For me an Old Skool Ford and yes I'm a 62 year old Old Ford owner and yes it is a yank - the only Old Skool Yank on here?? - Old Skool enough to be in the Calendar (April Page), oh and I want a hot Anglia now as well...

But I thought some more about this and realised an Old Skool ford for me is simply:

Rear Wheel Drive

Volume Production Cars

Simplicity

Nut and Bolt Upgrade to high performance

Design - they look different and are recognizable distinctive shapes

Maintainable

Still available at reasonable prices (well with exceptions)

Very competitve racing in the day

There is nothing to stop the more modern Front Wheel Drivers from forming New Skool Ford is there........

As the others have said, many thanks for all the 'constructive' replies :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I remember not long after OSF was started phoning Darren up one day all excited when we got to 100 or 150 members or something like that, but that was nearly 10 years ago!!!! Yes times do change, do we need to change with them, I really don't know.....

Every year @ CF Show we have by far the biggest and varied collection of cars which draw an immense amount of attention, so is the site/OSF scene dead?....I think not

Do we still have fresh OSF cars being built and gracing the pages of CF Mag? Yes!

Is there still something magical that you get, that you cant quite put your finger on when you see an Anglia or a MK1 Escort or a 100E that you simply don't get with an S2 RST or a later Retro Ford?.....I think so.

I personally own my my Mex, a Mondeo ST220 and a MK2 Orion, yet I have no desire in the slighted to start posting about the ST or the Orion on here, as to be honest, it wouldn't seem right, a bit like wanting to sleep with your hot fit 18 year old blond cousin with a healthy rack who is flirting with you intensely, you could.....but its still not right

I'd love a 3 Door Cossie, and I like all of the Retro 80's Fords, I'd still rather have a Retro 80's ford over a 90's/2000's modern safety conscious, crumple zoned, sanitised 'Newer' car any day

But...... this site was created not just to amuse ourselves the Admin, but to create an Online community for all those who share a common passion, if that passion has diversified, then the poll should give the answer

On on that note I'm off to bed, carry on fellow Old skoolers :mrgreen::mrgreen::lol:

Yep, now its been mentioned this poll is completely unfair, divide and conquer with 3 answers. Clever really

Sorry but that's not the case. There are clearly people who do want some update to the board but do not want to go the whole hog the objective of the poll was to assess that too. Plus, even if I count all the votes for change in one, it's still shows that the current majority vote is in favour of staying as is.

Look, we are only human, and yes, we still run the site in our spare time as well as hold down regular jobs and we also have day to day sh*t we have to deal with like everyone else.

If we could have worded the questions better knowing the replies don't you think we would have?

This poll was not to create a row, but to generally get peoples thoughts......hopefully constructive ones.
