There's a mobile phone them you can use but no others (as yet) go down to change theme at the bottom left of the screen

But I have serious dificulties with the white lettering on the black background. Hope you can give the vice versa option to in a short time.

It depends on what you've set it to set for new content in and how long over. If you click the box just to the right of new content, it can be set to search for new content in a multitude of ways. Set it to forums and then click "new content" and see if that brings anything up.

 

Once that's done, move over to the boxes on the far left of the screen and you can set it to "last 24 hours" or "unread" or "since last visit" etc etc.
