GJUK Posted July 9, 2013 Report Posted July 9, 2013 What are your thoughts on these little hot hatches? I know they're not fords, though some must have owned 'em? J
Admin Vista Posted July 10, 2013 Admin Report Posted July 10, 2013 Which one are you talking about? 106? 205? 206?
Fiesta Steve Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 I could only assume the 205, the others aren't what I'd call 'hot' !!
Anyway, I don't know anything about them !! 1
SmokeEm Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 I had a 1.9 which was quick as fook but I had it lowered 60mm all round which looked the nuts and after that it used to go through cv joints and driveshafts on a monthly basis
MK2Ed Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 What do you want it for - future classic, road, track, strip...? A 1.6 is a lightweight on the power front so it's an avoid for me, smoke em has the right idea.. I recently bought a 2.0 Clio 182 as a dedicated track car - a cracking beastie... so you're options are endless in the hot hatch market and many at decent money too so perfect for today's financial drought...
Admin Vista Posted July 10, 2013 Admin Report Posted July 10, 2013 I could only assume the 205, the others aren't what I'd call 'hot' !!
Anyway, I don't know anything about them !! I don't know much about them either but the 106 was available as a 1.6 GTi with a 16Valve 120bhp engine and a kerbweight of only around 880Kg so it can't have been too much of a slouch. Autotrader's review from 2009 gives them 10/10 for ride and handling and 8/10 for performance http://www.autotrader.co.uk/articles/2009/03/cars/peugeot/106/peugeot-106-gti-car-review My wife had a 206 (albeit a poverty spec version) when I first met her and I hated that car with a passion.
mk2 mike Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 I had a little 1.9 205 GTi back in the day and loved it. It was a proper little pocket rocket. My only gripe was it was a bit flimsy on the trim and metalwork, but I guess that's 80s cars in general!
GJUK Posted July 10, 2013 Author Report Posted July 10, 2013 Sorry guys, its a 205 GTI im looking at. Looking at a 1.9 gti this evening, the guys a member on here i understand with an RS2000. Should be interesting.
SmokeEm Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 Proper quick but they are also prone to leaking like a proverbial!!!

PCOE Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 I'd buy a mk1 Golf GTi
It's the only GTi.....

,)
Admin Vista Posted July 10, 2013 Admin Report Posted July 10, 2013 My younger brother had one in the early/mid 90's (though I think his was a 1.6) he liked the way it drove but said it felt much cheaper than the comparable mk2 Golf GTi of the same period
sidpf1972 Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 Old skool ford not old skool faux hall or Peugeot. I'm sure thres somewhere where people can talk about other marques
SmokeEm Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 The golf is far better built but nowhere near as fast or fun to drive IMHO.

wigglychief Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 Sod all them lot! if you want a hot hatch the get a Renault Clio 1.8 16v! I had one of those for ages and it is by far the best car iv ever owned. Completely standard but looked/sounded and went nuts! Got a 15.2 up santa pod. Then got 135mph on the M1 on the way back Pretty good for a bog standard car! Happily went round any corner at any speed aswell
mk2 mike Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 Completely pointless in this thread but best handling car I've owned was a Renault 5 gt turbo. Little rollerskate on wheels. It would have run rings round my mk1 golf GTi, and 205 GTi. Good luck with the car, looks great!
SmokeEm Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 Always wanted a R5 turbo but they had a tendency for warping heads and blowing gaskets so I stayed away lol
Admin Vista Posted July 10, 2013 Admin Report Posted July 10, 2013 It would have run rings round my mk1 golf GTi, and 205 GTi. Right up until the moment it blew up in a cloud of steam! My younger brother's 205 GTi was preceded by 2 Renault 11 Turbos (same engine as the 5 Turbo I think?) both of which blew up in spectacular fashion
mk2 mike Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 Ha! I must have been lucky with mine. I thrashed it everywhere and never had a problem. My mate had a turbo technics converted 205gti and had endless issues from day 1. All down to the turbo though, not the car itself.
marky4 Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 Always wanted a R5 turbo but they had a tendency for warping heads and blowing gaskets so I stayed away lol I had one and have to say one of the best fun cars I've ever had handle like a go Cart went like stink but it was chipped but unreliable and very flimsy and when they go wrong they cost !!! I'd go 16v Clio now
alltheoldohyeah Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 Best car I drove was the Renault 19 16v stuck to the road and went well. However cost a fortune when it blow up!
Fiesta Steve Posted July 10, 2013 Report Posted July 10, 2013 Right up until the moment it blew up in a cloud of steam! My younger brother's 205 GTi was preceded by 2 Renault 11 Turbos (same engine as the 5 Turbo I think?) both of which blew up in spectacular fashion 11's !! Now thats a sleeper ! 1
