carlf Posted August 22, 2013 Report Posted August 22, 2013 Hi,My Capri has been stored in a 'garage' (a shed with big doors) for the past 22 years. Sections of the floor have rotted away, and the tyres are flat (the wheels are also rotten). How do I get the thing out and onto a trailer? The floor isn't even so I can't put it on dollies, and the brakes are siezed. I'm worried about dragging it out incase the car tears into two pieces!Any ideas? Does anybody have any wheels lying around that I could use/buy for cheap? (remove the brakes and roll it out on the wheels)
walsh253 Posted August 22, 2013 Report Posted August 22, 2013 free off the brakes for a start chuck some second wheels on it and puuuuuuuusssssssssssh failing that big rope round the back axle and floor it as hard as you can !! If you choose the second option make sure you film it then in years to come youll be able to laugh as the axle comes flying out the shed
mk1estate Posted August 22, 2013 Report Posted August 22, 2013 give the wheels a good sharp clout with a hammer that may loosen the brakes off, then winch it straight on the trailer, it wont matter too much about the wheels so long as they are round lol it shouldnt matter for that short distance onto the trailer. you could try to drag it out even with the brakes stuck on and flat tyres, then when you get it home you can work on it here byt that depends on the tow car
carlf Posted August 22, 2013 Author Report Posted August 22, 2013 Cheers for the replies. I was initially just going to drag it up onto the trailer but the ground is really uneven, I doubt the car dragging it up would get any traction (plus there's a chance of the axle flying off/car tearing in two haha). I've managed to find some cheap 4 spokes so I'll chuck those on this weekend and do my best to free up the brakes - I'm not too optimistic about that though, the handbrake is seized... off... somehow
rallyesport04 Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 as above your best option is to free the brakes off as best as possible or back the trailer right upto the door an winch it up
mk2 ben Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 Landrover discovery low range diff lock on with a chain round the cradle and axle
Nick Posted August 23, 2013 Report Posted August 23, 2013 Jack it up, remove the wheels, take the calliper off and put the wheels back on?
quickrack Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 If you get some metal trays and jack the wheel enough to get it under it might slide enough to help?? 1
oxb1l Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 as much time as you can afford to slacken wheels and drag out ive used a block and tackle or even a ratchet strap with good results and ive used a big winch which halved a chevette
shaun1.6ghia Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 Ratchet strap from rear axle to crossmember? Would save some movement surely?!?? Calipers an drums off an your pumped up 4spokes on done
oxb1l Posted October 26, 2013 Report Posted October 26, 2013 do you know anyone that has a tirfor ? we use them at work for car crashes a decent ratchet strap will move the car slowly and if you have spare ones it will act as a brace to prevent axle movement even planks of wood if you cant get trays, once it starts to.move you'll get better acsess to work on getting wheels to move freely as the garage looks tight
JP. Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 Eehhh no response from him since two months .......
Mgentry90 Posted October 27, 2013 Report Posted October 27, 2013 Probably too embarrassed to say he had to carry the car home in tesco bags lmao. Or he will come back with some awesome massive post with a show stopper end result! I favour the latter
