Ford based car magazines .

Does anyone else buy either of the old ford magazines . Is anyone else getting fed up with  the same old  stuff all the time ? I mean relly lame vague guides to engine , engine swaps etc . Also cars from one magazine being put into sister publications . There expensive as it is and i really thing there not worth buying ?

Our interests are limited by the models of car we're all interested in so the various mags can only feature what people like and want to read about. The simple answer to your question is surely: If you don't like them then don't buy them?

 

I don't buy them religiously myself and had completely given up on the journalistic style of Retro Ford, happy to give them another go now they've changed hands though.

I buy them occasionally just to keep up with what's going on, but find the features very vague also.

I've always loved Classic Ford because its varied. I too gave up with the old RetroFord. IMHO everything they did was just to enhance sales of whichever brand they favoured that week. Will give RetroFord or even Retro Cars another go now

I personally find that the same cars seem to appear on event/show coverage  and there is always other cars there that make the event/show but very few get even the smallest pic,which makes any mag stale and boring unless its your car in the pics the mags mentioned are probably the worst for this ,  and unless a car is shiney shiney and had a serious amount spent on it it will only get a feature in my opinion , well thats what they seemed like a few years ago last time i brought them , now i have a quick look in the newsagaents and still seem similar .....Just my thoughts

Is was not a question , merely hoping to see others oppinions on the matter thats all . I know they are a niche magazine so limited subject but if find some issues are basically mostley pictures with lots of it looking like its there to fill a page - a page witha quiz on it for example . Also pages of for sale ads  etc .

I will not be buying retro ford anymore its gone right down hill now, and you are right about what they write in the mags I don't think there is enough info on the cars all very vague

Chris ive had my fair share of the mag pics ,had 4 pics in one mag this month totally out of the blue and my lad was in a VW mag this month  so im not bothered just seems the Ford based mags being discussed here are too ''samey'' ( if thats a word ) content/pic wise.....and yea ill defo catch you at some point this year mate ....... :-D

I think it varies month to month I think retroford has got better recently I personally hate the cut and paste history lessons andi think both mags miss a trick with not featuring more hot rod drag cars even classic yank stuff but everyone's views are different so it's got to cater for everyone I like the readers workshop type stuff best and the events coverage

I buy classic ford, retro ford and retro cars every month (practical classics occasionally too) I love a good sit down and a read

 

of course there are bits I'm not fussed about and the proof reading on all of them is pretty shocking but there's always something to look at or some bit of useful knowledge to be had

 

the mags are about  the price of a pint each - I can't see a reason not to get them

After the whole banger racing cortina issue of the other lot I promptly stopped buying that plus the fact they wrote aload of nonsense

I bought one of the latest mag and jesus they must be scraping the bottom of the barrel now. There was a 3 page spread on a guy whos doing his ford up on his drive, it wasnt even finished. doesnt that count for 90% of us who are restoring ours? guess there is hope for us all to get a feature on an unfinished car, just found it really boring to hear what his plans for for when it is finished i coud of saved the magazine money and just asked on here what everyones plans were.

Whilst I see your point, to be fair one of the complaints often aimed at magazines is that they only feature professionally built cars built on big budgets and rarely the home built hero. Kind of damned if they do and damned if they don't there. Personally I think the grafters features in CF are quite good.

Like as said before,they're only a few quid every month,it's good to have a read about other peoples cars better to have the mags available than not I reckon

Only bought retro once and thought it was thrown together by a bunch of wide boy teenagers,found that classic ford got a bit boring so stopped getting it for a while now just pick up a copy whenever im going on hols with the mrs

Ahh yea fully agree on to full of professional built cars but I'd of thought that they would of done the feature when the car was actually finished thats all otherwise wouldnt everybody be asking to get features on unfinished projects.

 

I do like reading about home built hero's but to me that article just seemed to drag on about nothing really apart from what he was planning to do to the car. But like everybody know we all change our plans most of the way threw our builds, I certainly have about 6 times as what i want mine to look like and engine spec

I subscribe to both Classic Ford and Practical Classics. I really enjoy them both. They both offer something different.

2 reasons i dont generally tend to buy them

 

1. the money i would spend on them i can save up and buy bits for the escort (i find the mags quite expensive)

2. i love reading up on OSF etc. projects that are in the early stages, i tend to get bored of them when there near completion and the mags all tend to be finished cars
