Two blokes tried to nick my Escort about half an hour ago (4am) from right under my bedroom window.

Fortunately I'm a light sleeper and any noise I hear in the close makes me think someone is nicking my car - this time someone was!

They were pushing it, I'm not sure what they were going to do when they got to the end of the close and had to turn because it has two steering wheel locks on it but I can only guess that they would be smashing them off once they were a bit away from my house

Anyway I shouted and ran downstairs to grab them or something but they ran off

Police called

Car almost nicked

Just posting to note that it happened

I'll make a few other attempts to secure it but anyone determined will get past anything I can think of

Now they know it's there I'm screwed aren't I?

Well, at least you caught them at it. Problem now is you'll end upo coughing out money for extra security such as Trackers, motion alarms, visible CCTV camera, wheel clamps etc. Even claymores from the old eastern bloc countries are fetching stupid money these days... :-(

Do you have a friend or relative who can store it for you for a few weeks if they come back?  If not, take a wheel off it or something similar.

To be honest if you caught them in the act id be quite surprised if they had the balls to come back

well done mate

I just bought two wheel clamps and I'm going to get a big chunky chain from wickes on my way home and tie the car to the lamp post

even after all that I doubt I'll be sleeping well tonight

So lucky to have chased them off though I can't complain

Motorcycle security chains are usually pretty heavy duty and come with some quality locks. I have an Oxford one and you'd need Industrial cutting equipment to get through it

My German Shepherd normally does the trick when someone abit dodgey knocks at the door, and when i answer i just sorry had put the dog away he doesnt like strange people. while you leave him parking away in the front window.

Stu, get one of those Motorcycle 'rollerball' alarms mate. How they work is this: The alarm has a chamber with a metal ball bearing inside. When the bike is parked, and the stand is used, be it the centre stand or side stand, the metal ball finds its place and stops moving. The alarm is set, and as soon as someone moves the bike to take it off its stand, the ball rolls and activates the alarm. It works the same way with a car as they are 12 volt systems. Once the car is pushed, moved etc, the ball rolls and activates the alarm. To make it even more effective, Go to Maplins or somewhere similar,  and get the loudest most anti social 50 million decible alarm or whatever you can get, and wire that to the Motorcycle alarm! ; ) It is impossible to move the car without activating the alarm!

As much of an inconvenience as it may be, if you dont use the car everyday, put it on axle stands as well, and even go as afar as removing a few or all of the wheels. If they want your car, they have to carry a set of wheels and a jack with them, and as soon as they jack it to remove the axle stands, the rollerball alarm will activate, so they wont get very far at all!

If all of that is too much mate, and you have a mother in law, lock the bitch in the car every night, and see how pissed she will be when a couple of sewer rats try and nick it and wake her up!! Good luck, sleep easy.....

If I locked my mother in law in my car overnight I'd sleep deeply in the hope of finding it gone in the morning!

Scum. Glad you caught them. I'm a heavy sleeper, they could take my car with me asleep inside and I wouldn't wake up!

I'd be bricking it about them coming back too. My car has two wheel clamps, is locked inside a brick garage, with more deadbolts and padlocks than Fort Knox and blocked in with another alarmed/immobilised car. Plus I have two dogs that bark like mad when the wind changes direction and I still worry about it. :(

Jesus so glad you woke up in the nick of time!, a bloody bomb dont wake me but i'm still paranoid about car n bike being nicked, or burglars in general, so i keep a pick axe handle by both doors, I think we should be allowed to wire up precious things to 240 volts he he,

my tracker has a motion alert feature which will warn me almost immediately if the car moves (and it reports it's position every 10 minutes after that too)

it now has stoplok, crooklok on steering wheel, 2 wheel clamps and a thick chain and decent lock holding it to a lamp post

I have written a note to my neighbours to watch out for anyone that isn't me doing anything to my car too

still fully expect it to go missing ;-(

car is worth more to me than enough money to buy a similar one though

having said that, agreed value is a must!

no one has returned yet to try again so I'm hoping against hope that maybe they weren't pros and were just opporrtunists

As has been mentioned one of the best ways to secure a car is to use other cars to block it in, yes it can be a nuisance in having to shunt cars about to get one out but it is affective.  It's also a great excuse to buy and own more cars!
