windsor Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 anyone on here fitted a vauxhall 2.0 16v engine in there mk1 escort pro's cons work involved. pics. thanks
KJ 1320 Posted July 14, 2014 Report Posted July 14, 2014 Pros easily achievable 180-200 bhp good strong engine when built correctly masses of parts out there for this conversion cons new parts for the conversion are quite expensive gives the ford purists the hump because it's "A VAUXHALL" (or is that a Pro!) lol Good easy conversion to do
windsor Posted July 14, 2014 Author Report Posted July 14, 2014 just a thought at the mo. would cost a fortune to get that power out of a ford engine i would imagine.
BigBubba Posted July 16, 2014 Report Posted July 16, 2014 Yeah, easy to get good power from the XE. You can pick a Zetec up cheaper though and no distributor to faf around with!, so it's really down to preference. Fitting them's essentially the same, both require new engine mounts, bellhousing etc, but both are equally well catered for in terms of kit. With the XE you can use a manta sump etc, but these are getting like hens teeth so prices are climbing.
mk2 mike Posted July 16, 2014 Report Posted July 16, 2014 Go zetec or duratec. STEP AWAY FROM THE VAUXHALL lol
theloudboy Posted July 16, 2014 Report Posted July 16, 2014 Mike I would have the Vauxhall XE over a duratec or zetec any day of the week, have you thought about a N/A Y/B I got one from WPE and its wicked.
windsor Posted July 16, 2014 Author Report Posted July 16, 2014 zetec engines are fairly cheap .but conversion kits look expensive.
Stiggy Posted July 16, 2014 Report Posted July 16, 2014 Moan as much as you like Cosworth designed head, how near to Ford do you want ??? 1
Moderator Rally Pack 2000 Posted July 17, 2014 Moderator Report Posted July 17, 2014 I would go Zetec if nothing else but to fit that cam cover that Burtons sell that make it look just like a BDA. In a Mk1 it just looks excellent.
Tall paul Posted July 17, 2014 Report Posted July 17, 2014 You can get one in there on a budget, few eBay specials normally turn up now and then, sumps/manifolds etc. I'd chassis mount it to so you can put it in a position you want.
windsor Posted July 17, 2014 Author Report Posted July 17, 2014 not in a hurry will wait for some bargains to come allong thanks for all the helpfull advice .going to enjoy being on this forum
livewire7116 Posted July 25, 2014 Report Posted July 25, 2014 repro manta sumps are available, chassis mount is way to go, only down side is if you want it to look tidy in there you will need an ign only ecu for the spark, Do not buy 2nd hand engine mounts!!!!
