Rick Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 just a bit of advice for anyone about to start a project car: calculate the cost > then treble it, calculate the man hours > and double it im learning the hard way that things cost a lot more than you ever imagined and that after every bit you think youve sorted a whole new world of problems and jobs come to light. --- -------- ----------- --------------< ----------- -------- --- kind of like that where each line represents a new task the long hard expensive slog!!!
60ftman Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 I keep a diary just for the projects for two reasons: 1. I keep an accurate log of money spent and on what. 2. I keep an accurate log of work done and when. If you are 'during' a project and look back at the week of empty pages it really spurs you on to do something (or buy something). I also try to tie-in major purchases with holidays. For a few years now we've holidayed in the US and had parts sent to the villa we're staying in. Sad I know, but it always works for me. (RS2000 - five years and counting. £9k) (CBR 600 - Two months and counting - £346) (Mustang - still haven't collected it - £0)

Jay_harrier Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 I started out with plans to build a tidy MK2 for about 6k, I upped this to 10k. Already hit 9.5k & it's not back from the painters yet... Still got a massive list of parts to aquire, each item seems to be at least £200 & that's without even thinking about a fancy engine, gearbox & a strong atlas. I hope to claw some back by selling off the standard road bits. I reckon it'll be on the road for £12k with a fast road pinto, type 9 & atlas (which I have) & develop the running gear over 18 months or so. The way I'm justifying (or deluding) it to myself is if I get the shell & the suspension right then I won't have wasted money if I should sell it on in the future. Definately double the budget!
brettp Posted February 17, 2007 Report Posted February 17, 2007 i recon im well over 30k on mine hade a load of work done that was s...t had to redo it all had a couple of engines and boxes then got it wrote of by a freind still nearly finished only took 5 years so far
