fezza Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 On the type 9 gearbox,i got one with my engine and am wondering if its worth the bother,i know its not a big job to get it in but would be so much easier just to pop the 4 speed back in,what are the advantages apart from the obvious extra gear
Hilux Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 what 4 speed box do you have? and what sort of use are you putting the car to? if motorway miles, then 5 speed it, if you want it for acceleration i.e. at the pod and you have a 'rocket' 4 speed box then use that.
fezza Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 Its the RS2000 box m8,as for use i have a 2.1 on 45's so you can guess how thats going to be driven ,what is a rocket box heard of it before but dont know anything about them ,if the only advantage of the type 9 is the extra gear for motorway drives then i dont think i will bother
Fiesta Steve Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 what is a rocket box Its a close ratio competition version of the box you already have
perry Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 come on fezza , you didnt have a problem with the 4 cogger in my mk1 did you keep those multi gears to the sierras at this rate well be telling people at petrol stations/car parks " no escorts didnt have 5 gears from the factory "
allanmex Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 im using a type nine from a 2.8 capri in my mex with a 2.1 pinto on 45s, i didnt like the sierra one, it was too long geared, get a capri one mate or stick with the standard 4 speed, hope this helps
fezza Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 come on fezza , you didnt have a problem with the 4 cogger in my mk1 did you No m8,but it did scream like a bugger on the motorway im using a type nine from a 2.8 capri in my mex with a 2.1 pinto on 45s, i didnt like the sierra one, it was too long geared, get a capri one mate or stick with the standard 4 speed, hope this helps Im not sure what my type 9 came out of ,you mentioned ''i didnt like the sierra one, it was too long geared'' 'thats what i was worried about,is there any way i can check what it came from
allanmex Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 the capri one has a longer input shaft, which will have to b shortened to fit a pinto, other then that they look identical
Baz. Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 5 speed all the way, both my cars have them, and i have had a 4 speed in the green one too, you need a 5 speed from a late 2ltr capri really, better ratios, no way would i have a 4 speed not if your planning on motorway travelling
Admin Vista Posted September 24, 2006 Admin Report Posted September 24, 2006 Ditto what Baz said. Type 9 in mine is fine I use mine every day and I'd be tearing my hair out (and probably deaf) if it still had the 4 speed in it. But it does depend what you want it for. If you plan to use it a lot I'd go for the 5 speed, if not and it's a weekend fun car with a little track action thrown in then stick with your 4 speed.
fezza Posted September 24, 2006 Author Report Posted September 24, 2006 Hmmmm,so does anyone know how i can tell where my type 9 come from, numbers etc the only reason i was going to bother right now is because it came with the engine straight out of a mk2 escort
jay Posted September 24, 2006 Report Posted September 24, 2006 5speed..... gotta be, unless you get some ear muffs i got a type9 in me eccie, firsts a tad short, but its not too bad......
