:woohoo: The RS is now registered as a historic vehicle. No more getting fleeced for £230 for minimal mileage! In to the Post Office this morning, bish bash bosh, a few clicks of the mouse later and no more road tax to pay :-)!

Finally!

Excellent news. I too had the privilege of getting free tax for the first time this year.

Sorned it on 30th . Goes to post office on wed the 01april, said I had an awkward one for

them, and they laughed and said "not another classic tax one ??"

They had obviously had a few that morning.

Its just gutting that all I get is a receipt now and no longer a FREE tax disk !!!

Tax refund already back from DVLA and in bank :)

At the moment it is pre Jan 1st 1975 but the Conservatives roll it forward 1 year at the budget each year to grant tax exemption to vehicles over 40 years old. Stand by for that to change (the rolling bit of it at least) if the party in power changes after the upcoming General Election

It isn't right, the cut off date is now January 1st 1975.

Does it have a manufacture date on the V5c? Mine did and it was a rubber stamp exercise at the post office. If it doesn't then you may need a dating letter..........which we will write for you for free as a site contributor. I'd try another post office first though (it has to be main branch ones) and if they say no, argue that if it was first registered in June 74 then it can't have been manufactured after that.

This is something i've wondered about,  if we have a change of Government or Chancellor.  Not many of the partys have mentioned classic car tax exemption, however UKIP have put in their manifesto that they would have a rolling tax exemption for all cars at 25 years old.

Been looking forward to the Capri being tax exempt since it was reintroduced, still a little way to go but hopefully nothing will change before it gets there!

Pity they don't have the same rolling idea for MOT's as I would say that 99% of the cars reg before about 1970/75 would be owned by enthusiasts and kept in very good condition anyway. Well good enough to pass an MOT. To me it's a waste of £45 to do a few miles on the road a year.
